I love the covers on these volumes. I'm still not sure how the tentacles look so 3D, but it's kind of freaking me out. :)

Excellent overview of these great books! I picked up the first of these based on your recommendation some times ago and it remains one of the favorites in my collection. I still need the second one but will probably hold off for now.

I had the first volume, lovely book. I gave it up, though, when moving country - definitely a book for a stately library; you wouldn't be taking it on the bus with you. I just ordered the American Library edition of the tales.

@@michaelk.vaughan8617 I've also got an annotated Edgar Allan Poe edition but I don't think Klinger did that one.

Great review, Michael! I have several editions of Lovecraft, different Complete Fiction editions, Mythos and Collected Works, Lovecraft is one of my favourite authors, but those annotated are still on my shopping list. (It's a big one! And for some unknown mystery, I don't know why but the more I buy, the more it grows!) I know Klinger's amazing work because I have his Dracula and Frankenstein books, and after seeing this I feel even more eager to get my hands on them. Loved your enthusiasm, man. Thanks for sharing. ;)

You talked about them when you showed the shelves. I bought them, and Dracula, and Frankstein. But my favourite will be Sherlock for sure. Now, I envy your cover of the first one. Mine is a stupid pink. I t doesn’t match the second volume.

Really nice books, I recently grabbed the Library of America "Tales" after watching your earlier video. The new volume of the Annotated Lovecraft looks like there some Japanese manga vibes going on with the cover. But the Annotated Dracula on the shelf behind you. I need that in my life, and the Frankenstein as well. this channel is really hurting my wallet, and she who must be obeyed isnt amused ;)

I apologize for getting you to spend money. That said, yeah, you really do need the New Annotated Dracula and Frankenstein. I’m pretty sure everyone does.

Thanks for the video. I’m writing about H.P Lovecraft’s poetry for my senior thesis yet I can’t find any journal article or books about his poetry. There are poetry collections but no annotated poetry books or a journal article about his poetry or any literary analysis. Are you familiar with an annotated poetry book by Lovecraft?
@michaelk.vaughan8617 Жыл бұрын
The Ancient Track, edited by S. T. Joshi is the only book I know of of his poetry. I don’t own a copy and don’t know if it’s annotated.

Excellent video. I'll have to look for those books (in the old cover. The new one looks a little fairy tale/anime). I look forward to a video on the annotated Dracula. I have a copy of the novel, but lost my annotated copy somewhere (probably during a move).

That is a good description of the new cover.

Good review, Michael. As a Lovecraft reader, i got to have these. Shame, though, that they seem to be missing his long essay, Supernatural Horror in Literature. Its omission is a little strange, considering the obvious difference in page count from Volume 1 to Volume 2, and that both are similarly priced. It is an essential work and would have been a nice bonus.
@michaelk.vaughan8617 Жыл бұрын
I agree. That could have certainly been In Volume 2.

Thanks for sharing this, as well as your other reviews. I've been looking for a very nice, relatively-complete edition of Lovecraft's works (any review of the Easton Press complete book?). I have the Barnes and No-Balls non-leather/pre-correction version. I was thinking about the B/N Leather updated version you covered but I REALLY hate the cardboard cutout inserted in the cover: I wish they would've just left it all leather. Any thoughts on the Arcturus 6-book set? Anywayz, watching this, I DO kinda like that it has all the references and the early illustrations. So I might pick it up. Not that I need another book to purchase. Again, thanks! :)
@michaelk.vaughan86172 жыл бұрын
I don’t have the Easton Press book but it uses the same text as the Chartwell hardcover. You can get that for about 15-20 dollars. A much better price for an excellent edition.

Will you purchase the new edition ? The cover looks great. They both look like terrific volumes. Klinger's forward looks like a really good intro to horror history for beginners. I think the 200th deserves another Q&A 😉😉
@michaelk.vaughan86172 жыл бұрын
I’m really not sure if I’m interesting enough to warrant another Q&A. I think Steve Donoghue has the Q&A market covered anyway.

Is it strange 2 You that I hate annotated books?? LoL. They are just annoying 2 me....unless it's a non fiction History text. I had a annotated Tarzan of the Apes I traded for a non annotated one. They look at me like I was crazy.. LoL. Now that other stuff You are showing is pretty cool. Each 2 Their own. 👍 Wow!!! Your Dark Arts are Growing 2 strong for me 2 witness 🤯. It sends my brain shrieking into Madness. 👍 As always....Great Book Review, and Video. 👍😁👍 200 videos coming, and I've watched all except 1. LoL.

Well, this was a very effective commercial 😂 I would definitely like to add that to my collection at some point. But is that really the new cover of volume 1? (The one you "projected" lol) I did not like that cover much at all. Volume 2 is the most appealing from the outside

Yeah, that new cover is…an interesting artistic choice.

Would love to read lovecraft with decent foot notes but these volumes look too cumbersome for me.
