Nane Chao or Nongse( Mongse) is a former kingdom of AiLao. The word tai or thai means people ( khonh) or people of a certain geographical location but none of an ethnic nor race as Williams Dodd mentioned in his tai race book published in1921 by ignorance and stupidity. Tai Lue, tai Dam, taiDeng, tai Khao or Done-Phoutai, tai Phouane, tai Yuan or Yonok, tai Ahom, tai Mao or Mo, tai Khamti and others belong to the Lao ethnic group. the people whom Siamese classified as Thai Yai are in fact AiLao who moved from Mao or Mo city-state, during the Ming dynasty Chinese called them AiLao Shan or Ailao mountain. The Liao Zhuang and Liao of Liaoning provine are Lao by origin.
The Zuang, Dai and Tai Lue people in China are related to the Lao-Tai family. The people who Siamese called Thai Yai and Tai Ahom in India are related to the Lao-Tai family. The People who Siamese called Thai Isan and the citizen of Lane Na are all Lao. After the new research carried out by Mr. Houmphanh Rattanavong a Lao historian, there is no Thai or Tai-Kadai as ethnic among 60 ethnics belonging to the Lao-Tai family. Siamese took the word Tai that means people or khonh to make of artificially a unified ethnic called Thai and later on renamed Siam to Thailand.
