Excellent video, just found your channel. I’ve got a number of old Farish locos that need this treatment, so I’m going to see about ordering motors and do this with them. Thanks for a great video

I’m really pleased it has helped. I find changing the gears first does solve a few poor runners. If that doesn’t help then move onto the motor. Enjoy

Nice vid Lee. As a fellow N gauge modeller, steam locos only, those tiny springs are also the very devil as they escape into the realm of the carpet Gremlin! But the brush springs which you removed from the diesel chassis are the same little beasts, so keep 'em safe in your spares. My hawk-eyed wife has saved the day many times finding the springs, thank you darling!

Nice one, Lee. I'm leaning towards replacing some motors on my GF locos. Am sure I'll find this video useful. Cheers, Jim L

Hi Lee. what a very informative video. I am thinking of putting a coreless motor in my grafar class 52, and this video has made my mind up to go ahead with it, as the class 52 chassis is not much different to the one you were working on. Thanks.

That’s great news David. Let me know how it goes. I certainly haven’t regretted it.

Hi Lee - What a brilliant vide including erms, lol. For a first timer there was nothing wrong with this update, just brilliant. I have just been waiting to see one like this, shame Tramfabriek do not show you in depth videos on how to do it like yours. I have asked. I have a Dapol Terrier and being N Gauge they state it cannot accept DCC but a number of people have done it. The motor from Tramfabriek is unbelievably small and fits into the body of the Terrier leaving more than enough room to put a small harness decoder from DCC Concepts such as the DCD-ZN8H.2. This not only gives me a better motor but also allows me to go DCC aswell with no wiring etc showing in the footplate. Now if you want to tackle that and put it on KZfaq I would be ever so happy. Either way I hope you make some more videos, please. Regards Chris

I just dont get some people, its a hobby and we share just like you did in your video. Its how we learn and enjoy our hobby. Were not professional film makers nor want to be. Please do not be put off. Mine are all off the cuff, no rehearsing and done on my mobile. I have purchased a large stand and a tabletop one which is a godsend but that is all. If people dont like my channel, dont watch. Again please do not be put off, you seem to know to much about the hobby not to share, Regards Chris

Hiya Lee , This is the first time i have come across your channel . I am a fellow N gauge modeller and have found this Very Interesting and has temped me to try this for myself on a Class 47 (older poole chassis ) which does need a new Motor and suffers with split axles .

That’s great to hear Andrew. It really isn’t too tough to do and so satisfying when you get them back running after so many years. I’ve got another video I’m putting out in the next week or so with some similar information. Please don’t hesitate to ask for help.

Thanks for watching Brian. I have yet to delve into the world of dcc as my collection of 30year old locos are all dc and have focussed my efforts in getting them up and running. I’ll see if I can find anything on it though.

Two wires go from your chip to the motor, and two wires go to where power is picked from the track, basically the same two connections Lee made to body and brass strip.

Hi Mike thank you for you reply 1st have replaced the two brushes with a contact less motor have two wires gray and orange to the chip pin 1 and 6(pin 1 orange)not sure where to take the two other one from.the body to the chip if this explains things better thanks again 😀 Brian

Why would you not demonstrate it worked? Show how smooth and quiet it is? Very odd
