In the previous installment, I finished all the carpentry for the railroad, thus completing the originally contracted work. I was under budget, so the customer added a few extras. In this video, I install the track and turnouts for the main staging yard ladder.

The metal weights are my fast-tracks filing guides. The others are paving bricks. For HO track, I also use cans of soda, but they are not particularly stable on N-scale track.

@@TimFinn-hx2kn Most of my HO-scale railroad builds use hand-built turnouts using jigs from a company called "fast-tracks". These are the guides for holding the rails while i file them to shape.

Sorry double slip switch

Double slips are easy to wire. All you need to do is remember that they are equivalent of two normal turnouts placed toe-to-toe and then squashed together. The two frogs are each wired to a switch that changes with the points at the opposite end of the slip. When one or both ends of a crossover are replaced by double slips, the same logic follows; the only difference being that the outer ends of both double slips operate together. Even if you have many parallel tracks with a long crossover and multiple double slips in a row, the logic is still the same, remembering that it's always the outer ends of two adjacent slips that are connected - not the two ends of the same double slip. There is never a situation where both ends of a double slip should be operated together. Live frog single slips are a little more complex. Here, you must remember that you can never have both intersecting routes live at the same time. Thus, it's best to ensure that you always have at least one end set for the curved route. That way, all the problems go away. If you cannot do that, then use a dual frog juicer from Tam Valley Depot. Be sure to remove the jumper so that the two frogs are not connected as a pair.
