In this Retro Recovery I restore an original Nintendo 64 controller to like new condition. Like many original N64 controllers, this controller has a loose and broken joy stick. Broken joysticks are a common issue with controllers that see normal usage. To repair this joystick issue we must rebuild the plastic that has been worn down. We do so with some two part plastic epoxy and then treat the repair with a little bit of PTFE lubricant.
Be sure to leave any questions you have down in the comments below. I'll also leave affiliate links for the products used in this video.
Thank you for your support and for tuning in to another video on The Game Junkie.

I didn't know you could repair the joy stick. So cool

I really like this method because I always have some kneaded 2 part on hand, so it's essentially the free method of repair for me. Marble plus expoxy is such an improvement over the drill and fill method I think, but maybe not as pristine as brand new plastic parts.

Mine is from 1996 and still zero wear on the stick.. I saw the design flaw and lubricated the bottom of the pan. Still like new

What about the dead zones? Did you notice any of that? Testing in software that verifies would be nice. At 10:07, it seems like the analog got stuck

Very informative video Thanks Although I need to ask can i use Lithium grease for lubrication?

Thanks Perry! I chose not to use lithium grease because it is petroleum based and could react negatively with the plastics over time.

What's the diameter of the marble you use?

Interesting idea using the epoxy, what if I add too much and it hardens? Can it be removed?

It can but it’s a bit of a pain. You can use that same marble with a small piece of sandpaper wrapped around it to remove epoxy until it’s good.

Does water re-activate it once its dried?

No it can’t be re-activated and once it’s dried it’s as hard as the plastic it adhered to.
