Baat Ek Raat Ki (English: A Tale of One Night) is a 1962 Hindi film directed by Shankar Mukherjee, starring Dev Anand, Waheeda Rehman, and Johnny Walker.
The film has music by Sachin Dev Burman, who gave some memorable songs in the films like,
"Na Tum Hamen Jano" sung by Hemant Kumar, "Akela Hoon Main Is Duniya Mein" by Mohammad Rafi, and the hit qawwali, "Arey Kisne Chilman Mara" by Manna Dey.
Storyline :-
Neela (Waheeda Rehman) is in police custody for committing a murder. Believing that she did it, she confesses. When renowned lawyer Rajeshwar (Dev Anand) decides to represent her, he accepts her guilt, but as he goes deep into the details of her story and the circumstances, he is not sure any more. What could have placed Neela at the scene of this heinous crime?
Eventually it is revealed that Neela's employer Beni Prasad is the mastermind behind Neela's imprisonment. He is after her property and devises a plan in which Ranjan, Neela's co-actor, is to act as if he is in love with her and get her will signed. But on the night Ranjan has taken the papers to Neela and is just getting them signed, he changes his mind. He was about to surrender and tell the whole truth when Neela held him at gunpoint - just before he could tell the name of his employer he was shot. Neela believes it's she who had killed him whereas it was Beni Prasad who was hiding and listening had shot Ranjan dead.
Rajesh disguises himself and appears at the court on the final day and accuses Beni Prasad and tells the whole story. In the whole story CID (Johnny Walker) aids him as well as Kalu a street beggar who pretends to be blind acts as a witness. The final scene shows Rajesh driving his car and telling "what do i get?? ...money, fame and nothing else!!" when he images Neela talking to him...answering his questions. At last Neela appears from the back of the car and the happy couple are reunited and are said to be really in love. The movie ends with Rajesh and Neela driving the car to the song "Jo Ijaazat Ho To Ek Baat".
So how does this gem of a Hemant Kumar solo fit into the bizarre whoddunit? I’ve always found Hemant Kumar an intriguing rogue in the strict actor-singer pairings of classic films-the mysterious dark chocolate mousse of Bollywood playback. His tender yet overwhelmingly manly voice stood out among the Rafi wannabes of the age-the celestial way his voice resonates in the opening lines is a rich treat for the soul. Famed music director Salil Chowdhury said of the singer’s voice,
“If God could sing, he would have a voice like Hemanta.”...

1962. The year I was born and this film was released. My parents were very music minded and bought gramophone records every month. Now they are gone but their huge collection is still with me. I grew up listening to songs like this and many more gems of those times. The old Garrard record changer is still running and I still listen to those priceless gems till late in the night all alone. Thank you mum and dad for opening the doors of the world of music for me.

I lived in Bombay for 1.5 years. I learnt to speak Hindi to just get by. But the songs… aah… they completely stole my heart. This is one of those songs. I can imagine myself walking in ghatkopar at night and this song would waft in the air from a nearby store. I would simply slow down or even stop, unwilling to walk away out of earshot. What priceless memories. Wish I could go back. I was 23 then.

हेमंत कुमारजी के आवाज कि एक अलग क्वालिटी थी उन्हे किसी के साथ कम्पेअर करना गलत है उनकी आवाज दिल को राहत का एहसास दिलाती है,वैसेही सुमन कल्याणपूरजी के भी कितने पुराने गाने है
