Breaking Bad follows protagonist Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a chemistry teacher who lives in New Mexico with his wife (Anna Gunn) and teenage son (RJ Mitte) who has cerebral palsy. White is diagnosed with Stage III cancer and given a prognosis of two years left to live. With a new sense of fearlessness based on his medical prognosis, and a desire to secure his family's financial security, White chooses to enter a dangerous world of drugs and crime and ascends to power in the world. The series explores how a fatal diagnosis such as White's releases a typical man from the daily concerns and constraints of normal society and follows his transformation from mild family man to a kingpin of the drug trade.
Better Call Saul is the prequel to the award-winning series Breaking Bad, set six years before Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) became Walter White's lawyer. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and often against, Jimmy is "fixer" Mike Erhmantraut (Jonathan Banks), a beloved character introduced in Breaking Bad. The series will track Jimmy's transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts "criminal" in "criminal lawyer."

Such a good man. The fact that he treated Nacho’s girlfriend with respect says a lot about his moral character. A lot of fathers might’ve looked down on her, but Manuel treated her with kindness and dignity. He showed no contempt or malice towards her. Not that I’m saying he should have or anything. But given the circumstances, he easily could have unfairly used her against his son. But he didn’t.

He literally has no business with her, it's rude to rope her in. It's a power play, easily making the switch from disapproving of Nacho's actions to being tolerant and nice towards "someone else." While Mr. Varga has the right to disapprove of being roped into Nacho's business, of being put in danger of Nacho's actions, he's being ignorant of the fact that Nacho is taking care of him and shielding him from the danger. And it all comes down to the fact that Mr. Varga can't get over how hard he has worked to deliver the shop to Nacho and have his son carry on his legacy, and Nacho has simply chosen a different path, not even to spite him, but simply to walk his own path.

@@siamwseHow do you see that she's being promiscuous? Sure, she's wearing casual clothing that is revealing, they're in the privacy of their own home and not expecting guests, but her behavior isn't flirty in the slightest, and she removed herself from the situation because Nacho asked her to with his body language.

Idk . He got his son killed in the end . What good his bravery and honor did exactly ? Nacho's money was drug money yes , but he did risk his life many times to earn that money . If his father was so adverse of taking drug money , he should have taken it temporarily , move out of the city , settle far away where Salamancas couldn't reach and then keep only necessary amount and return the extra amount to Nacho . Then Nacho could have run and both could have lived a long and happy life in their own ways . Nacho living on his drug money and his father doing some honest small business somewhere and earning his bread and butter .. not having kept any drug money .. living an honourable , honest life with a son alive somewhere . He could have been smart but No he had to be honourable .

@@1furious yeah but if it was your father and the family business were you have worked in with him for years, the natural thing is to ask more details and the exact number, its a big deal and kinda weird. "Buying the shop and the terrain for more than is worth? why? how much did he offer?" its way more natural than what nacho did, that was just inmediately go on favor of it, without more information or thinking about it, giving how important the shop was, one would at least try to confirm that its truly worth it.

Nacho’s dad reminds me a lot of Chuck. Both are supposed “moral compass” authority figures for the main characters who “cannot help themselves at being illegal” and can’t get out of the game. The difference that makes Manuel so loved while Chuck is so hated is that Manuel tried his hardest to make Nacho better and never betrayed Nacho. He wants Nacho to go to the cops actually for Nacho’s own good. And whenever Nacho did good, Manuel answered his son with a smile. The rest of Nacho’s misfortunes is out of his control. Meanwhile, Chuck didn’t even try to help Jimmy get better. In fact, he helped Jimmy in a very calculated way to make sure Jimmy will always be beneath him forever and once Jimmy showed the slightest hint of getting out of the line or having progress in life, Chuck didn’t hesitate to betray Jimmy with the facade of preserving the law right away. Whenever Jimmy did good (especially when Jimmy took care of him for years), Chuck never said “thank you”. Most of Jimmy’s misfortunes are the consequences of the constant abuse he got from Chuck’s inability to control his own hatred and jealousy. (Abuse doesn’t have to be physical) “But Chuck is right! Jimmy became bad in Breaking Bad and sequel timeline.” Yeah but that happened with the condition that Jimmy lacks a proper nurturing from his own family which exacerbated his “nature” of scamming habits so it left a huge wiggle room for “what if scenario” that Jimmy could have been good if his family around him treated him the right way (Chuck supporting Jimmy’s career and loving Jimmy the same way he loved Howard, and Kim not enabling Jimmy’s unlawful behavior whenever it’s convenient for her). Manuel gave all the love he could to Nacho. There is no wiggle room for “what if scenario” for Manuel and Nacho here. Manuel is a true moral compass. Chuck is just a fake moral compass in Jimmy’s messed up head.

I honestly believe that this is the scene in which Nacho gives up trying to change his fathers mind about his situation. He starts off by denying that it’s his money he’s offering his dad. But as soon as his father says ’Look in my eyes!’ and he looks up, his expression changes. As if he realised that he would never be able to make his father leave town, even if it’s for his own safety. Looking back at this scene, it’s honestly really tragic the way Nacho and his dads story ended. Each time Nacho tried to leave the life of crime, he simply dug himself deeper and deeper until he was essentially just a dead man walking.

@@chromaperipheral How so? I don't quite remember this part. Is it somehow addressed again after this part (or before) or not?
@chromaperipheral
@chromaperipheral Жыл бұрын
@@feelsman7837 No, it’s brought up here for the first time and never addressed again, but you can see that Nacho doesn’t have the heart to keep denying it and it’s also highlighted in the dialogue that the guy offered way more than the shop is worth, even with the land

I think it’s hinted that the reason his dad has stayed in business this long is cuz Nacho has been using his money to keep him afloat.

Nachos father is a good man but very naive to the real world of the underworld. Had Nacho taken his father's advice, they (the Cartel) would've erased them both...

His stubbornness and naivety certainly didn’t help. But ultimately it’s getting involved in the drug game in the first place that brought it about.

taking your sons money and retire early beats working 11 hours a day for the rest of your life any day of the week just saying. Also Nacho could've gotten out alive if were not for him being so stubborn.
