Funny. The song comes from a time shortly after the 1st World War. In the course of the revolution in Russia (where the political aspirations split into 2 main parts, namely the so-called "Whites" and "Reds"). The Whites Tsarist, the Reds revolutionary. The Reds demanded the incorporation of Königsberg (formerly a Prussian/German territory, where many people of German origin lived, most of whom served in WW1). The people of Königsberg opposed the annexation and fought for the tsarists because they were promised independence for their service. Conclusion: In a WW2 setting, the song would be somehow wrong.

I'm thinking either A: a vaguely realistic scenario in which Germany brings _total_ total war to the table and begins a chemical warfare policy on all fronts, rapidly developing new neurotoxins and biological weapons that ravage entire landscapes and cities, leaving areas where no man could ever dare to go even with a gas mask. Many parties have already developed nuclear weapons in masses and are using them excessively. So much so that civilization crumbles. As the cities of the western world are obliterated one by one, the governments slowly begin to dissapear, leaving desperate people to fight for themselves as anarchy begins to haunt the ruins of the world. Bascially: Fallout in a WW2 setting. I just think it would be awesome to walk trough destroyed Paris with Wehrmacht gear, a gasmask and an MP40. This is the vibe this artwork is giving me.

I don't think this is a WW1 song, this was composed in like shortly after the war in 1918 for the west russian volunteer army and the freikorps fighting in the russian civil war against the red army, which explains the references to the red army.
