Yeaaaah...You mean Simone Biles the choke artist? Nadia got 2+ individual gold medals in 1976 and 1980. Simone got ZERO golds in 2021 because she is a choke artist. Again, Nadia is the gold standard. Simone got a silver in team in 2021 for one crappy vault in qualification for team. What a joke that was by Team USA trying to give her a gold in team with one crappy vault by her. Thankfully Russia won gold.

You try competing in any sport when your brain has decided to not know where the rest of your body is - a condition called the "twisties". A Russian gymnast became a quadraplegic for life a couple decades ago when, 2 weeks before the Olympics, her coach forced her to continue practicing while she was experiencing the same problem. Simone also is the only gymnast in the world that can do a couple of her stunts, and they are so difficult that the judges refuse to award the difficulty points those stunts deserve so that other gymnasts won't try to do them. Simone has 32 Olympic and World medals - 4 Olympic Golds and 19 Golds in the World Championships, and is the most decorated World gymnast ever, all of them earned in a time where the gymnasts have massively advanced the complexity and difficulty of their sport. Actually, the Olympic Gold standard is Russia's Larisa Latynina, with nine, but she has said that she doubts that she would have ever gone into gymnastics if they were as difficult and dangerous then as they are today.

kilroy1964 the reason she was overshadowed unfortunately Nadia got the perfect 10 first. Please she got the most, seven in total which has never been matched at the Olympic level.

Nellie Kim got only 2 gold medals of her own, while Nadia won All around and other 2 Gold medals (beam and UB (where she got a perfect score of 40)) Nellie had 2 marks of 10, while Nadia got 7.

Yeah and then Nellie Kim took revenge on the Romanians by scoring them low when she was on the judging panel and then changed the fabric of the sport by heading the FIG.

Nadia's abilities surpassed anything the world had seen before. Olga korbut changed the nature of the sport, from a dancing competition to one of pure ahtleticism. but Nadia perfected the change, and so far out-distanced her rivals, it was eye-popping.

We are just so proud of her! I’m 27 and I remember hearing about her perfect 10 from my grandparents ever since I was very young. Nadia will always have a special place in our hearts! ❤️🇹🇩

@@runcaz7802 Except Nadia did it at 14 which can no longer be done. With that said, the International Olympic Committee has no age limit. Age limits are set by the various sport federations.

Well her routines are very basic at this point. Young children can execute them extremely well. Gymnastics is so advanced now. We have Simone biles who is arguably the best athlete in the world has ever seen. Nobody can come close to her. But Nadia was my role model. I became a gymnast because of her. Well and Mary Lou Retton. I was a nationally competitive elite level gymnast for 15 years. I did train with Bella for six months in Texas. One of Nadia‘s teammates was one of my coaches. I still choke up from the line in the movie about Nadia when Bella says to her do you believe little girls can fly. Oh my God I’m starting to cry. Gets me every time. Unfortunately the way they changed scoring in gymnastics the war never be another perfect 10. I’m not a fan of that.

Simone comes close athletically - but only athletically. Nadia was by far more entertaining, more feminine, and more engaging.

Yes gymnastics is art as well as performance sports. Nadia was just awe inspiring in her performance and composure under intense stress. Simone is more athletic but her performance is lackluster.

She lives in the United States since 1989. Her man is Bart Conner, also a gymnast from U.S. Olympic team. They have a son. They have together the "Bart Conner Gymnastics Academy" in Norman, Oklahoma. Nadia Comaneci takes SEVEN TIMES A "PERFECT 10" at the Olympics 1976 in Montreal and TWO TIMES A "PERFECT 10" at the Olympics in Moscow. Bart Conner takes TWO TIMES A "PERFECT 10" at the Olympics in Los Angeles. They are The "PERFECT 10" family. 🙂

Since gymnasts now have the ability to have higher difficulty scores, they can score above a ten when combined with execution :)

Prob originated with “participation trophys”. Now high difficulty maneuvers aren’t allowed to those who’ve perfected them…it’s unfair to the competitors LOL!!

Nadia's mark of 10 could not be displayed on 1976 monitors as they only allowed 3 digits; they thought nobody would get a 10, so no need for extra digit. By the time of Mary Lou Retton, things were corrected. The 1.00 display happened only in Montreal. In a way that glitch made the event even more special.

There is a documentary they made called Nadia Comancei: The Gymnast and the Dictator. It is very interesting. You see how even though she won a gold medal and got perfect scores, when she went back to Romania aside from a ceremony that was most likely just for show, her life was no different. In some ways I think it got worse.
