Because of Nader Shah, Iran kept its territorial integrity and remained a major force in the East. When Nader came to power, Iran was very close to be divided among Ottomans, Russians, and Afghans. He dealt such a total defeat to the Ottomans that after Nader, they never dare to attack Iranian territory until at the end of Qajar dynasty which was one of the weakest dynasties that ruled Iran.

Your title must be ""The Greatest General that Westerners never heard of" because most people in the Middle East, Central Asia and Indian subcontinent well know about Nader, some like Iranians admire him and some Indians curse him for good reason. By the way "Nader was not Napoleon of the East", "Napoleon was Nader of the West" because Napoleon was born after Nader died and it is known that Napoleon read about Nader and his brilliant tactics and strategies.

In fact, Turkic-speaking peoples have played a major role in Iranian history, ruling the country from the eleventh century up to the early twentieth. Thank you for your good video. I say this to those who believe that Afshar Safavi and Qajar are Turks First of all, there are archival sources, including the book, that during the time of Shah Abbas, Persian was declared as the official and middle language, and Shah Ismail chose the names of his children from the Shahnameh, like his successor (Shah Tahmasb). ). And except for those paintings written in Farsi next to Shah Safavi, owner of Iran and many other documents.... Those tourists who come to this land, all bring the name of Iran, even in the letters that were exchanged between Safavid or Afshar and Ottoman kings, the king of Iran named Khosrow or Dariush Zaman is mentioned. There are many documents about Qajar. For example, the National Bank of Iran, the National Council of Iran, all of these were built in the Qajar period, or the Khaqan literary association by order of Fath Ali Shah or the next king of Iran, Reza Shah, from the Pahlavi dynasty, had the highest military and political position in the Qajar period. Or the recorded voice of Muzaffaruddin Shah speaking in Farsi and mentioning the name of Iran. And the travel letters of Muzaffar al-Din Shah and Naser al-Din Shah, which are all Persian, and the name of Iran appears in them many times. Or in the contracts written with foreign countries, the name of Iran is written in it and nothing else Apart from that, all the important cities or capitals of these dynasties are in today's Iran and not outside the borders of today's Iran. Do not forget that most of the present-day countries of the Middle East belonged to Iran for a long time and were separated from Iran during the Qajar period. (part of Iran's civilization basin) The agreements that caused the separation of large areas from Iran during the Qajar era include: Golestan, Turkmenchai, Akhal Paris and... And don't forget that these periods that we say are the peak of the growth of Persian culture and literature in history, Persian language was the official language in India and Iran at that time. And in the Ottoman Empire, Persian is the language of the courtiers. (The language of poetry at this time is Persian) There are many cultural exchanges between Ottoman Iran and India. For example, take a look at the buildings built in Gorkani, India, such as the Taj Mahal, which was built by Iranian architects

There are a number of inaccuracies and omissions in this documentary. I appreciate the effort and work you did and I think in general it's not a bad documentary however you fail to mention a few things like: The reason Nader Shah invaded India was because the Hotaki leadership had fled to India, because they were Persian citizens they were considered traitors to the Crown, and the Indian Mogol king would not return them to face justice, and not because India was so wealthy. Another inaccuracy is where you claim he enlisted in the military, but in reality it was because Nader could not be defeated in battle by either the governor or the king's forces they so they asked him to take leadership of their armies and gave him their daughters to marry. There are many more but I'll leave it there
@sultanskinny
@sultanskinny Жыл бұрын
So first off there are things that need to be left out for the sake of time. The first “inaccuracy” you bring up was just a pretext to justify Nadirs invasion of India. He had plans to invade it anyway. The rebels were just a political ploy to use in justifying it. Mohammad shah agreed to close the passage to the hotaks but there was little action taken to actually garante that. Nadir saw weakness on the part of the Mughals and took his shot but that was ultimately always the plan. The second “inaccuracy” is actually on your part because I never said he enlisted in the shahs army but rather that he was asked to join see 7:11. Appreciate the comment. Please inform me of anymore inaccuracies.

Wrong information. You made the Safavids look bad by ignoring the rich Iranian culture, which influenced the ottomans and Mughal gurkani empires. The court language of both the ottoman and Mughal empires was Farsi same goes with architecture and administration. They copied from the older Iranian dynasties, plus Babur could never conquer the Safavid Empire. That's why he chose to conquer India, plus his son Humayun took refuge in the Safavid Empire and, with the help of the Shah Tahmasp I, Shah Homayun managed to retake his throne

I hope this one day inspires native americans, amish, and other american tribes that tribal ancestry and humble beginnings should be sources of pride rather than shame. After all, they're the ones that always clean up the mess "civilized" folk leave behind after they inevitably cause total chaos through their corruption, greed, general incompetence, and apathetic tendencies towards others and then get fucked by their enemies.

@@sultanskinny I appreciate the comment, but in all respect, that is in my opinion not only an exaggeration of his innovational skills but also a misunderstanding of Nader Shah's person. I could point to several unrelated Rulers across the world who used merit based rule and appointments, even thousands of years before Nader, a fun example might be Wu Zetian in Tang-China around 650 ad, but most recently ofcourse Djengis Khan in the 13th century was famous for this, and he was the grand daddy of all Nader's big heroes, like Timur and Akbar the Great. The same goes for all his military accomplishments. All giants stand on the shoulders of other giants, as you yourself point out regarding Napoleon. Now Nader Shah had an interesting life and accomplished amazing things, but he is far from alone in having done what he did and in World History, I do not think he can be considered to have had a a great and lasting impact on the world we live in now. But what an incredible life and adventure indeed!

@@TheRealFeechLaManna you can have your opinion. But in the opinion of Napoleon and other 18th and 19th century generals Nadir Shah’s contributions were a game changer. None of the examples you provided utilized modern weaponry so they were not really relevant for the time. Ain’t nobody reading ghengis khan on how to use artillery and corps divisions. What made Nadir shah of particular interest was the speed and absolute destruction his armies were able to inflict on his enemies. Very few could destroy an army as fast. You don’t get called the second Alexander for nothing. You don’t have to believe he did anything great militarily. We have the greats to tell us that.

Besides territorial integrity, two alternative concepts of sovereignty to replace the crumbling dynastic ideal can be discerned in Nadir Shah's negotiations with the Ottomans in the 1730s. Nadir proposed equal relations based, first, on Ottoman recognition of the legitimacy of Twelver Shiism as a fifth school of orthodox Islamic law. And second, he proposed something akin to an ethnic or national concept - equal relations based on Nadir Shah's identity as a member of the noble Turkmen family of peoples." Howard, D. (2017). Am I going to be the first to point out how funny it is that this guy's name is Nadir? (Meaning: "Lowest Point" in English). It sounds to me that Nadir had the same problems Tamerlane did. He could match Gengish Khan's brutality, military prowess, and gift for meritocratic leadership, but he couldn't replicate Temujin's statecraft, which enabled Gengish to build states that lasted after his death.

Decline of empires cannot be attributed to a ruler involved in parties. These are misconceptions. Causes are ususlky more complex involving political, economic and military issues. You need to really do some further research.
@sultanskinny
@sultanskinny 2 жыл бұрын
Yes usually they are.... But not in the context of the Safavids. It is pretty well known that the excessive partying, luxurious spending, drug use and alcoholism of the kings led to the decline of the empire. If your ruler is spending more time getting high on heroin than administering your country, the roots of its decline are not that complex.

Nader Shah did not end Islam power era . Islamic nation had already fallen behind in technology. Over 250 years before Nader Spain could build ships to sail to America .
@sultanskinny
@sultanskinny 11 ай бұрын
If you want to see it that way sure but the only reason spain and Portugal built those ships was to trade with India because it was the largest economy at the time. That economy would grow under the Muslim Mughals. They couldn’t access these trade routes because the much stronger Muslim ottoman army blocked passage to the east. The ottomans were nearly invincible as even by the 1700s European armies were only capable of momentarily taking cities like Belgrade of which the ottomans reconqured. The ottomans had never suffered such a defeat so devastating until Nadir shah, and the Mughals were completely subordinate to him. Nadir shah had the most powerful army at the time and was the most powerful man of his era. Even Europeans acknowledged this power as they didn’t even have the confidence to challenge the ottomans the way Nadir did until Napoleons venture into Egypt. Sure they had boats. But Muslim empires were far more advanced in medicine, engineering and even philosophy at this time. It’s why you saw in this era so many Europeans visiting and mimicking the Muslims and not the other way around until the late 1700s early 1800s (after Nadir shah). European dominance of the world truly came with British domination of India which was after Nadir shah. He isn’t to blame for the entirety of Islamic powers decline (obviously) but his actions in weakening the most powerful empires in the world and destabilizing his own territorial domain due to his brutality definitely contributed to it. In my opinion at least.

Ahmad's chroniclers also adapted and reconfigured various legitimating devices from Nader's ruling ideology. This included labeling the Afghans (and in particularly the Dorrani family) as the “il-e jalil-e Afghan” or “il-e jalil-e Dorrani” in imitation of the phrase “il-e jalil-e Torkman” used by Nader's court historians.

The intro is sooooo wrong. Safavid Empire was extremely powerful and a gunpowder state. In fact they helped Babar gain control of India to form the Mughal Empire. They received gun powder and artillery from the Safavids. Later on Mughals lost multiple wars to Safavids.
@sultanskinny
@sultanskinny 10 ай бұрын
Few soldiers in the safavid army used firearms. Swords and bows were the primary weapon as cavalry was more important to them than infantry. Nadir shah would change this. The Mughals on the other hand fully utilized firearms as did the ottomans. That’s why the label as gunpowder empire is somewhat inaccurate. It’s not the use of fire arms that matters it’s the standardization of it. And while yes the Safavids did beat the Mughals in battle, I would still argue that the Mughals were still more powerful in terms of their economic and political influence. The us lost to Vietnam and Afghanistan but we wouldn’t say that these countries are more powerful than the us. + the Safavids by the 1700s from which this video takes place was no longer the powerful empire of shah Abbas. It was a shell of its former self which is why it collapsed before the other two

Why do you attach his achievements with “Islamic” history? Is Napoleon “Christian” history? Or the Russian empire or the Dutch or the East India company? Why is it Europe vs “Islamic” world. Of course, the religion was central and a tool and fuel for colonialism before the European one (in which, religion was albeit used). Nadir Shah is a Persian legend and leave him at that. In contrast to those Iranian officials who claim that the Turks in Iran were actually originally Persians, the late IRGC Commander Qassem Suleimani claimed that the descendants of Turkic dynasties that live in Iran are not Iranian. Suleimani claimed: "Turks are aliens and non-Iranians. For hundreds of years (during Turkic rule in Iran), Iran had no history. Non- Iranians like the Seljuks invaded and ruled Iran."74 Shaffer, B. The Islamic dominant came to end because Age of Enlightenment and Industrial Revolution which was happening in 17 and 18 centuries didn’t happen in Middle East. Religious close mindedness in Islam prevented establishment of printings press in Iran and Ottoman Empire in 15 and 16 centuries. This lead to flourishing of science and industry in the west and not in middle east . Printing press was prohibited till mid 19 century. Golden Age Islam was finished by Mongols who mascured the population and Muslim scientists. The Mongolian destroyed the greatest library to humanity in 1300 because their culture at the time did not find any use for Baghdad and Persian Libraries. Genghis did to Persians what Hitler did to the Jews. The Modern Mongolia offends and ridicules the world by having Statue of Genghis.

The next effective ruler of Iran was Nadir Khan (r. 1729-47), a Redhead tribesman. Having seized power, he had a serious legitimacy problem,- he 'tried to revive the pre-Safavid Turkman tribal principles of legitimacy', and to justify himself on the grounds of descent from Timur and his manifest military exploits. At a Mongol-style assembly (1736), Iranian chiefs 'elected our august majesty to kingship and sovereignty which are the hereditary prerogatives of the noble Turkman tribe' (in Arjomand 1984: 221).
