i am a carnatic sangeeta enthusiast and relish the pancharatna kritis of saint Thyagaraja. The kirtana Nagumomu is composed out of the intense passion and bakthi of the saint towards the Lord Rama and to sing this composition with accompanied instruments is an ultimation culmination sadhana(practice). bhakti (devotion) towards the Guru and Krithi(composition) and learning the intricacies (raaga, thaala, laya) which only a few privileged can afford. Most of others, like me are passive singers and it is this section that boosts the saadhakaas. Mr Krishnakumar and co have only opened an avenue by which even passive singers who have not been lucky to learn but are keen listeners can even hope to sing the kirtana, diluted as it is from the original form and is in a simple lucid fusion form and not wholly traditional carnatic. they need all encouragement

This singer is really unique and he's got a mystic and powerful voice. Those who don't understand this music probably need to get more attuned to the world and themselves. Share love not hate :)
@chetan5848
@chetan5848 6 жыл бұрын
Attuned to the world? What does that even mean? By the way, the singer may sing well, but let us not pretend it is Carnatic music. It is a new genre(whatever that is) that has very little to do with Carnatic. Case in point, wail at around 7:48. No Carnatic singer quite wails at 'Moralidudu' like that...ever. Good soothing melody. Not Carnatic in the slightest. Raga Bhava is simply absent. This is traditionally supposed to be a devotional plea to Rama, not a Jazz concert.
@666prow666
@666prow666 5 жыл бұрын
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha opinionated people are the funniest people in the world. 😂 First of all, what I think he meant by being attuned to the world is that the world (and everything in it, including music) is changing/evolving rapidly and giving rise to a new fusion of various cultures and perspectives. Secondly, I don't think they ever termed themselves as a "Carnatic" band, neither did Anand's comment use the word "Carnatic" anywhere so whatever you said about pretending it is Carnatic music or the fact that Raga Bhava is absent or the fact that it is traditionally supposed to be a devotional plea to rama is completely invalid in this context. This is a fusion band. (please research the genre of fusion music, it will enlighten you) It refers to the amalgamation of different musical instruments and cultural music styles that form a medley based on original compositions, covers or improvs. "Jazz concert" Hahahahahahahaha the ignorance is splendid.

Saxophone by Littlehood is great. He proved that Music has no language barrier except tune; Though a Foreigner, he did great justice to his rendition of carnatic notations just like any other South Indian musician. God blesseth him.

Yeah macha. Even I liked the composition very much and have been listening N number of time. But,somewhere it hurts the sentiment with carnatic music!!!!
@chetankumar-on7jj
@chetankumar-on7jj 9 жыл бұрын
Kiran Kamarthi it sounds very nice in principle, what you say. But the vibrant emotion and devotion in this song demand a certain respect to the original composer's wishes. Of course, you are free to sing a heartfelt plea to Lord Rama as if it were Jazz! It's apparently all 'our choice'. The singers here sing as if it were some club/bar song, complete with horrible vocalisations and extensions. You say there is no rule as to how to sing, but this is no bathroom song! It is a very serious composition with deep connotations and bhaava. This composition for example is set to Abheri Raaga, and it sounds best in Abheri Raaga. A complete bollixing is observable everywhere in this rendition, especially when the singer sings 'Jagamele Paramaatma, yevaritho moralidudu', I shut my ears...such a horrible wail. I have nothing against the artistes, but I do have everything against this particular rendition. Carnatic music is so rigorous and frameworked for a REASON; Nagumomu was composed within that framework for a REASON. The 'freedom of music' is definitely a valid excuse, but a real carnatic afficionado must acknowledge betrayal of the original spirit of the composition if sung in a manner such as this.

chetan kumar felt good after reading ur comments!! But I must say one thing though as a kid born in 90's if u make them listen to old Carnatic its pretty much boring and I do mean no offence as I myself am a fond lover of Carnatic and a kid of 90's and I think that with change in time these songs will be extinct until and unless it's brought out in New forms such as this one!! But to be frank I like this rendition by Sri Manglampalli Balamuralikrishna,he just takes it another level!!

+Astrologer Vinod hello sir, am sorry to say this to you but you can ask most of the kids born after 2000's don't know who sri tyagaraja,sri mangalampalli bala muralikrishna or smt.MS subbu lakshmi is,there will be only very few exceptions,this is a sad but hard truth,i was just stating a point, bringing the harsh reality into consideration, i have a huge respect to our traditions and culture.. the word boring meant as a typo and not in a disrespectful way!!

classical music is divine and universal. This is proved by Krishna's temple rock-. Though Foreigners, their commitment to the Hindu classical music deserves encouragement, praise and adoration but not criticism. This being TELUGU kriti of Tyagaraja, we find even in India, some of the other language classical singers do lot of mistakes in accent and pronounciation of some words not knowing its meaning and not able to adapt the lyrics of Telugu which is not to be blamed. No body can do justice to other language than to Mother tongue. We have to appreciate the commitment and attempt by these Foreigners. GREAT. They proved that Music has no region.

This is superlative and soaring in many places. I think the singer has a superb vocal sensibility, and an very soothing musicality to his voice. Contrary to what I felt was an abysmal rendition in another track (bhaja gOvindam), this was really nice for the most part. It is really hard to make fusion work especially in the chord arrangements (I believe bass lines and rhythmic arrangements can largely be synced rather easily within the grammar of the raaga and tala). The trick is to retain the fidelity of the rAga's emotional registers, yet bring the chord variations that may be outside the arohana/avarohana, and yet embellish the song. I think this is a good example of how to do fusion well. For the most part. While the singer seems to have a rather good grasp of abhEri, the rAga of the song, his notes are totally alien to the rAga especially at 1:07 (thelisi....he sings n s g r g r g). When I heard this, I thought this was going to be another unmitigated disaster. But then, for the remainder of the song, it was pretty much on target. I found that deviation in 1:07 unfortunate, and unnecessary. It is like you take a song composed by Beethoven, and arbitrarily change the notes for the sake of fusion. Keeping with the grammar of the melodic structure is non-negotiable for the lead singer and lead instruments.

A good effort by the troupe.... the background music is very nice to here.. the fusion was a good attempt.. but what to say.. one of the most popular songs in Karnatic music... which really produces strong Bhakthi in our hearts and a strong admiration for thyagaraja swamikal .....has been 'killed' here.... the very essence of this song has been destroyed.... Usually I enjoy fusions though I crave more for Karnatic.... I am dissappointed... I feel really sorry to say ..this isn't good at all..
