Naihanchi Shodan is the first kata we learn in Taika Seiyu Oyata's art of RyuTe and variations of this kata are found all across karate. In this video, I break down the basic version of the kata step-by-step. Our students can use this as a reference for training as can anyone interested in seeking different source material for their own understanding.

As a jujutsuka I use this kata as part of my training, it's bunkai is effective and efficient

I always loved going to my classes, but with my health issues I only got to Ni Kyu .. some of the katas I can’t think of, but I never forgot my basics. That’s kinda weird but it’s been about 14 years since I have gone. My instructor is Bill McGee in Hoopeston Illinois. The last time I heard, he was promoted to 9th Dan and his wife is either 5th or 6th..
