Lol, I'm sure someone's already told you. But just in case I'll do it too lol... I've lived on the water for 51 years. So, I recognized it right away. Its shaved and dyed Abalone shell. That's why in the pieces that aren't dyed your getting all the blue, black, and silvers. It grows in layers of deposited material not unlike a trees rings, or fingernails. They shave it apart in layers and break it apart into whatever size pieces that are needed and dye them differently colors...♡♡♡

Definitely it is abalone...I live off the coast on Vancouver Island, BC Canada and there are alot of abalone here, This is great to have these real pieces of broken shells to use in this nail art project!!!

D.R.O.O.L! I feel like Sunshine, my service dog, when she sees me picking up the treat jar. She sits, quietly, but patiently drooling down onto the floor... These nails elicit about the same response with me! This is the most gorgeous set of nails you have ever done. ever, Ever, EVER...!!! If you are starting your own product line...its going to sell like hotcakes. For sure. 100% doubt free on that one. You should consider making and selling full sets of temporary nails that people can buy and either use the double sided tape or glue them on too. I bet those would sell like crazy too! Instead of always having to work on yourself for demo videos like this you could work on a practice hand or something like that... and take custom orders from people and use those orders as demos. It would be like a killing 2 birds with 1 stone kinda thing. Wouldn't waste product... bcuz you would be making a custom order you've already sold... wouldn't have to constantly wrack your brain for demo ideas for KZfaq... (although you are incredibly creative I doubt you really have any trouble in that department 😁) You have a lot of fans and followers who are not just from your local area...they are all over the world 😊 this would be a way to allow them to wear a set of nails from you. Just an idea. Absolutely gorgeous set as always. I know I'd buy em! Even if it ended up costing more than just going to my local salon because I could reuse them over and over again since they are removable. Kirsty from Naio Nails has a great video on how to make a temporary set that will come off easily and reapply easily. People can send you their exact nail sizes and you just make a set! If you are already making and selling these...just disregard this comment ☺

One year later, I have cut my time by half. I am still averaging 3 hours. I only work on mine and my mothers nails every 3 weeks, my "training" is KZfaq with Suzie here @ Nail Career Education & Kirsty Meakin @ Naio Nails, also for entertainment and a good dose of Holosexuality, Cristine @ Simply Nailogical. Many shells have insides like abalone, it was rather popular in the Victorian days but became less popular. It's called 'Mother of Pearl' because it literally is what the pearl oyster would use to cover irritating sand grains to make them less uncomfortable. There are lots of types from plain white thru natural multi shades like the abalone and the human dyed ones too but the natural shaded is more valuable I think :-)

I believe they might be dyed/stained Capiz shells, perhaps? Not totally sure, but the little bits that broke off when we worked with them in my company years ago looked a bit like that.

Demetrius bolston she said in many videos that she prefers forms because you can custom sculpt a nail and not place a preformed tip. But some nail technicians use tips and achieve great work. Its all about preference

I personally do my own and am a nail biter and especially as a beginner I’m able to get beautiful nails even with tips which have been much easier to nail than forms. I’ve never seen a tech who used forms before Suzie, actually. I personally find them way more commonplace and a lot easier.

I do Gel nails on myself and friends and Need about 1h filing (god, I Wish I had a drill) and 1h doing a Basic set. Testing designs and techniques on myself often needs 4h 😂 I learned everything alone (pre youtube, I only had one instruction paper in the beginners set i bought) and I killed my cuticles multiple times. I frankly think my cuticles didn‘t live the First year 💀😂
