A lot of students are confused about filling orbitals either in upward or in downward direction. Well, we know that no two electrons have the same spin within the orbital. So, it depends upon you to start placing electrons either in upward or in downward direction. For example, you can start placing electrons in downward direction in 2p orbitals and then in upward direction. Remember that it will not effect the value of "ml", it will only effect the value of "ms". To learn more about filling orbitals, watch our video on Hund's Rule. if you are confused in the last part where sir has inverted the electron arrows then read this It really doesn't matter. the spin quantum number is under development and for clockwise or anticlockwise rotation no direction is specified, in an orbital, there are 2 electrons which are rotating differently. You just have to specify which direction is clockwise and which is not in the subjective paper if they ask you. an electron may be +1/2 or -1/2, and another electron in the same orbital should be the opposite. so it doesn't matter, sir is 100% right

For 3d7 if u place electron starting from upward direction then the value of ms is -1/2. Can u plz clarify it.

It will effect only ms. The direction can be anything we can't predict it exactly.
