This man is the greatest Japanese actor of all time. Apologies to Mifune who is 2nd best in my opinion

I think Nakadai himself would disagree he was a protoge to Mifune

just watched the human condition trilogy..his mans versatility and talent and range is astonishing. from harakiri to ran, and from evil to even tempered, ensemble to starring role. i am a really big fan in australia :D love you kaji san!

i had the rare treat of watching ran & yojimbo last week with nakadai tatsuya..he told me that it was the first time in 20+ years that he had seen either film, which tells me that he doesn't watch his own films much..it dawned on me that, at 77 years of age, it may have been the last time nakadai will ever watch these films again...an incredibly sad thought, but if in fact that turns out to be the case, i'm happy to have been there with him for the final showing.

I hear you on that one. I suppose masculinity is out of style nowadays. ¬_¬ One of my favorite Nakadai movies was Sword of Doom. Not the best film I've seen, but man...Nakadai made the most convincing villain. Rarely can an actor display such raw evil and savagery. And yet, he is excellent as a good protagonist as well. I liked him in Kill!, When a Woman Ascends the Stairs, and High and Low.

Agreed. I'd like to see him in greater roles in the future. Perhaps as a samurai or a yakuza.

Like I've written elsewhere about Sword of Doom; Tatsuya Nakadai was cold as a bitter wind. Only a glimpse of that evil was made evident in Yojimbo - when his character was watching the fire burn down a house - those eyes were black with villian - ness (I'm just making up my own words. LOL!) I am sick to death that Mr. Nakadai was in New York for a retrospective and book signing this week and I completely missed him.

the two black and white miniatures are the final duel in the the movie Sanjuro, A great, fun movie with a bloody ending. the colored miniature is Nakadai in Yojimbo as he is clutching a revolver. Both classics. I am actually trying to find a website that sells these miniatures. anybody know where????

You know I cannot find anything on his book! I know he has a memoir and he had a book signing. U can call the book store it took place at in NYC - 212-869-1700 Kinokuniya Books Store (I search their website nothing came up for me under Nakadai). If u end up following up on this find out anything would u kindly let me know the details on his book? (I'm thinking it's only printed in Japanese since I couldn't find it - maybe.) Thanks
