The casting of Robert Goulet opposite Priscilla Presley HAD to be a type of in-joke. Elvis famously hated Goulet (or at least his singing!) and is said to have pulled his ever-present gun and shot out his TV screen whenever he would see Goulet singing on television! Elvis was long gone by the time this was made.

9:53 Mark! Look at that flag! I don't recall seeing it there before. But while looking for something to show you, I learned that now there is a controversy about whether or not that flag ever flew at "The Alamo"! 😮

'Airplane', 'Hot Shots' and 'Naked Gun' are all tremendous - but I gotta give it to 'Top Secret' as the best.

Great movie. You should also watch Top Secret! 1984 with a young Val Kilmer from the same directors of Airplane and The Naked Gun trilogy.

I remember seeing when this came out with a friend who had not seen the first Naked Gun. It took him 20 minutes to realize the Naked Gun was not a dramatic cop movie.

23:32 I wonder if the script originally called for feathers, but for some technical reason they ended up replacing them with those packing peanuts.

That's interesting. Possibly an allergy or supply issue. I do think packing peanuts as modern feather stand-ins is pretty funny though.

Watching this in the cinema with my friend who had a very distinctive laugh (which made us laugh more) I came as close as I ever have to asphyxiation via laughter during the scene where the professor is having items dropped on his head. I had sore lungs for days after this.

The third Naked Gun is also hilarious. If you want to watch other good Leslie Nielsen comedies you should watch Dracula Dead and Loving It, Wrongfully Accused, and Spy Hard

You should watch Forbidden Planet (1956). Not only is it a classic science fiction movie, and the debut of Robby the Robot, but it stars Leslie Nielsen in a dramatic role.

There are portraits of Davy Crockett in the White House and Crockett shows up in the SWAT firing life. Producer Zucker is a huge Alamo buff and sneaks Crockett references into many of his films. Zucker is actually the actor dressed as Crokett in the movie.

The man in the photo at 7:43 is English Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain, proudly displacing his copy of the Munich Agreement by which Britain and France agreed to hand over the Sudatenland of Czechsolovakia to Nazi Germany. I saw this in the theater as a 9 year old and subsequently watched it a million times on VHS before I finally got that reference.

17:46 Mark! This is a comedy movie, so the question here is, are they repeating the error of depicting a revolver pistol with a silencer, or is it intended because they know it doesn't work? 🤔

While the Naked Gun movies and Airplane stand out in Leslie Nielsen's filmography, I'm partial to his turn as Francis Marion in Disney's The Swamp Fox from back when he was doing more dramatic roles. FYI, Francis Marion was the inspiration for Mel Gibson's character in The Patriot.
