The Namalsk soundtrack will forever hold a special place in my heart. It fits SO well with the atmosphere of the map. Those long unforgiving nights huddled by a camp fire, with people you’ve just met minutes ago, sharing stories of past lives. Begging to know the difference between friend or foe. The quiet times down in A2, wondering if it was your steps you’ve heard, or someone else’s? The children mocking you as you hobble your way to the nearest house, not knowing if you’ll make it in time, the endless ticking clock of life or death. Namalsk was the map that made me genuinely excited to play DayZ every day. It’s a place that I can return to no matter the day, knowing that the map, music and game will bring me back to a better time. While I’ve never been to A3, or any of the rather new stuff to Namalsk yet. It will forever be my favorite map. Thank you Sumrak.

My first experience with Namalsk, I spawned in at night, and quickly found myself lost and freezing to death. I accepted my fate and decided to just wait for the end. Looked up and the Northern Lights were going, and "Aurora Borealis" started playing. I actually felt a twinge of emotion as my character faded away, under the stars. It was a great moment for me and a perfect intro to Namalsk.

I recently played on a namalsk RP server. I met a man called ‘Jacob’ on the beach and he was dying of thirst. We jogged along the beach together trying to make it to lubjansk to get him water, that was until his jogging became a hobble and eventually he couldn’t go any further and he died infront of me. The moment he died 18:00 Coast started playing as I looked out onto the vast empty ocean. It was honestly a profound gaming moment. Thank you.

I love that although DayZ is regarded as one of the most toxic communities in all of gaming, in reality, for the most part the players actually get along quite well when there's less risk involved. When the two sides aren't constantly on the verge of getting killed. I remember playing a game (not on namalsk sadly, but Cherno) and fighting a literal war, being made one of the Generals in said war, and it got so bad we got featured in a youtube video about the darkest stories within DayZ servers (the war was over cannibals taking over the server and hunting Bambis, a few bambis including myself formed a resistance and it evolved into all out war, there was also a mod that allowed us to hand bodies ornately and stuff, so we did that to try and scare the enemies. War took about 5 months, ended in my side winning with the cannibals being hunted to such a point that they could barely spawn before they got hunted. They agreed to back down and yeah. After the war ended, my faction (the Chernarussian Free Army) pretty much holed up in Tisy and occaisionally sent patrols out to Green mountain and NWAF along with the smaller North East Airport. I ended up leaving and creating a new faction called "The Order of New Canaan" basically a Christian/Mormon group of missionaries who roleplayed by traveling the map, providing food and medicine to people in need while also preaching and spreading the gospel. About a year after the war had started, I was standing on a cliff (I believe in the north east of the map) with a fireplace, warming up and staring out at the sunset. Suddenly, a player came and sat across from me. He told me his name and I recognized him as one of the old cannibal leaders I had fought and killed multiple times (he had killed me a handful of times as well). He told me he still played on this server usually. Just keeping to himself and living in the woods. It was interesting how by the end of the conversation, this guy who I had genuinely hated for months, and then thought I'd never speak to again ended up being just a normal guy. By the end of our conversation, the sun was rising again and he said he had to go meet with some people, but he was glad he got to talk to me. Before he left we shook hands and told eachother the past was the past and if I or he ever needed something, I could just come to that section of the woods again or he could radio to ask where the missionary was. Truly an experience I'll never forget. People are people, our violence is just a product of our circumstance, and DayZ has taught me that better than any book or philosopher.
@Kipp2743 жыл бұрын
Sumrak, you overdid yourself. Your mod is what DayZ should have been like from the beginning. I started today and just couldn't stop, the nostalgia from the Arma2 mod was just too much, it was just like back in the days. The ambiente while you struggle to survive ist unbelievable. I nearly froze to death and was just about trying to safe my life in a container. Suddenly I hear distant children playing, and something that sounded like something barefoot is dancing around next to me. Gave me the creeps

Over a year later and Namalsk is still my favorite map. Nothing better than playing Namalsk on a hardcore server. Sitting in the dark by a fire, seeing the awesome sky as you wander to the outpost, and the music subtlely playing in the background. Sumrak and Daniel, you made a masterpiece.

Namalsk is the best in my opinion. The feeling of playing on the map is oddly satisfying. The score along with setting is so melancholy. I wonder how it got to that level of detail. Exploring Namalsk alone and imagining how it used to be, what they did there, everything inevitably abandoned and hideous.
@Kurt_Kurtov3 жыл бұрын
Special thanks to those who wrote this music! She directly tunes in to flashbacks from the times of ArmA 2. I listen with goosebumps. A certain cinematic is directly embedded in front of my eyes, each melody seems to personify its place in the world of DayZ. It is difficult to find words to admire the powers that have been applied. I hope that the Sumrak team also admires and puts their whole soul into this world. In Russian, one by one, another game had a series of videos called "Blast from the Past". It told about the old days, about what no longer exists, how everything has changed over time. The video turned out to be carrying nostalgia for the past. And I would like to see a similar video once, at least about what the world was like before, and what it has become now. To admire the history of Namalsk once again.

Your map (and its choice of soundtrack) is exquisite. I think you have the talent to collaborate the required components to create the ultimate survival game. The problem with Dayz in itself is it is buggy when you combine all the elements which could take it truly stratospheric ie. atmospheric soundscapes, uncomplicated base building (as shown can be done in games like Rust), realism and modelling like Escape from Tarkov and vehicles/aircraft that don't have to be added on as a mod. Some day a game like that will be created. I think you could be the man for the job! :)
