Great series of videos with the past masters; encouraging to see that the 'Golden Era' Muay Thai techniques are still being taught and passed on. I look forward to more!

Here's my input: What he is doing is like a front thrust kick which thrusts horizontally covering more distance requiring more hip movement. It does stay low. The more common knee you are using is like an upper cut. Outward vs upward. 2:08 best shows this.

We do a sliding ax kick covering a lot of ground in tkd. I'm going to try this knee at muay thai class.

One of my all-time favorites! What is he up to these days? Teaching? I had heard he was in the restaurant/entertainment business now.

he is showing this knee without putting his heel behind his butt, some thai trainers dont support this typ of knees because they says it has no power behind. What do you think Sylvie??

It's got the same core mechanics as a switch kick, only you take weight off your base foot at the end of the motion.

So is it like a stepping knee combined with a switch step?

In a very rough sense. But there are lots of small differences that make a difference. For one, it's as if you are shot out of a cannon. Another is that the knee is thrown in a very horizontal fashion. It is not rising.

I don't see Namkabuan sliding here, to be honest. sometimes he pivots on the ball of his back foot, sometimes he just elevates off the back foot without pivoting, but i've watched this several times and he doesn't really slide even once that I can tell!

He experiences it as a slide, which is important to how to execute it. If you think of it as "pivot" or "elevate" you won't be experiencing it as he does, which is fine. He says "slide". But, you can biomechanically break it down and take from it whatever you want.

I never understood the way some figthers hold their hands when doing knee. I understand you can generate more power with one hand/arm going towards your side. But then your other hand goes in front of your chest leaving your head totally unprotected. All the gym I have been to in Thailand teaches some kind of covering your head when doing knees. One arm towards your side, the other covering your face. Can you shed some light on it. Thank you 😊

Every gym has their way of teaching techniques. You'll see several ways to throw the same technique. Different ways to skin a cat, ya know?

If you watch Namkabuan fights he quite often puts his hands his opponents hands to neutralise them before he charges forward.
