Celebrated archival reissue label Light in the Attic (LITA) is proud to announce the second release in their Nancy Sinatra Archival Series, the definitive version of her inimitable debut LP, Boots. Originally released in 1966, the enduringly iconic, million-selling album not only catapulted the career of singer, actress, activist, and cultural icon, Nancy Sinatra, it contained within its grooves an enduring anthem of empowerment that continues to resonate with new audiences today with no signs of slowing down.
Boots marks Sinatra’s transformation from “Nancy nice lady,” as she says, to a fully-formed and self-assured figure of empowerment both in appearance and in performance, making her forever synonymous with the album’s titular subject in the process. A top 5 album at the time of its release, Sinatra scored a No.1 hit on both sides of the Atlantic with “These Boots Are Made For Walkin’,” which earned three GRAMMY® nominations and sold over a million copies of the single. The album marked her first full-length release with writer, producer, and collaborator, Lee Hazlewood, which features a mixture of Hazlewood-penned tunes and selections from heavyweights The Beatles, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, and more. The successful collage of 60s material hangs beautifully together with support from the famed Los Angeles session musicians, The Wrecking Crew, who set the stage for Nancy’s vocals with their raw, jangly, exuberance and cohesion. Tying it all together is arranger and longtime collaborator Billy Strange, whose innovative arrangements provided the perfect sound to help Nancy capture the attention of the world. Included in the forthcoming reissue are all tracks from the original album, plus two bonus tracks, “The City Never Sleeps At Night” and the previously unreleased “For Some.” All tracks have been newly remastered from the original analog tapes by GRAMMY®-nominated engineer, John Baldwin.

Fun fact: This song was originally written by the author, Lee Hazelwood, to sing himself. But Nancy Sinatra convinced him that it would be too harsh for a man to sing about walking all over a woman. He agreed and let her record the song, which became a hit in part because it promoted women standing up for themselves in their relationships with men, which was one aspect of the growing women’s rights movement in Western culture.

Exactly. Nancy knows how to draw attention to her beauty without showing too much skin or being indecent. It was all in the movement and postures. Jessica showed too much skin and brought attention away from her boots which were the entire focus of the song. Basically... Nancy=sexy classy lady who might want a fun night out. Maybe go on a nice date. Jessica=sexy whorish cowgirl playing hard to get with no real intentions of doing anything. Simply bustin mens balls for fun. You tell me which sounds like the better person.

This song was revived when it was featured in the 90s classic First Wives Club starring Goldie Hawn, Diane Keaton, and Bette Midler. I was a teen when I watched it, and it seriously impacted my life. I grew up Fundamentalist Christian so seeing the women made small by their marriages then divorced find true freedom sent me down a completely different path in life. It’s a great movie.

You keep sayin' you've got somethin' for me Somethin' you call love but confess You've been a'messin' where you shouldn't 've been a'messin' And now someone else is getting all your best These boots are made for walkin' And that's just what they'll do One of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you Ya You keep lyin' when you oughta be truthin' And you keep losing when you oughta not bet You keep samin' when you oughta be a'changin' Now what's right is right but you ain't been right yet These boots are made for walkin' And that's just what they'll do One of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you You keep playin' where you shouldn't be playin' And you keep thinkin' that you'll never get burnt (ha) I just found me a brand new box of matches, yeah And what he knows you ain't had time to learn These boots are made for walkin' And that's just what they'll do One of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you Are you ready, boots? Start walkin'

I can't take my eyes off. The music and song are hypnotizing and the more I listen, the more I like it. I want to dance with them. The girls are beautiful. I find their looks very attractive, the shoes are very stylish and go well with their short dresses and tights. Women's legs in tights are basically my weakness, they are exquisite and elegant☺

@@dccisco9515 Well, friend, this video was intended to be shown on the Color-Sonics and Scopitone film jukeboxes of the day, and the majority of those machines were in taverns, lounges, clubs and bars - not to mention rumpus rooms, so these videos always had enough tease to warrant one more quarter thrown into the machine. In regard to their wardrobe, let me just say that the sweet blonde dancer in the Saturn Yellow sweater, as I call it, had a very wide set of hips and pelvis, and as such, her sweater didn't completely come down to cover those hips, and she must have required her dancer's briefs to be cut to allow more freedom of movement - hence, her leg openings were cut much higher than those of the others in the ensemble, and admittedly, she was - pardon my Scotch - blessed by the buttocks fairy; as much as I hate to say this, she's my favorite dancer out of all of the dancers in this video - just for those very reasons.

👍Nancy Sinatra, irreplaceable for me and an icon with this song. I heard it in the 1960s in the Federal Republic when the AFN in Saigon went on air with the program “Good Morning Vietnam” for the US Army. Today the song is relevant again for me thanks to the Federal Government's proposals to the Defense Minister for the reintroduction of compulsory military service. In the 80s, I myself served voluntarily in the German military for four years, also motivated by this song.♥
