A TV show about a modern day Mary Poppins. This show was very popular with little kids like myself. Great theme song with a hip early 70s sound to it.

I remember that 1970-71 Friday night ABC lineup very well :-) It was The Brady Bunch, Nanny & the Professor and The Partridge Family. Those shows were my prize at the end of a long school week. I was 9 years old.

I loved the show. Then again, I was just 12 years old. It had a pretty strong following among kids my age. During its only full-season run (70-71) it was part of ABCs Friday night lineup, along with The Brady Bunch, Partridge Family, The Odd Couple and Love American Style. A very good TV schedule for family-friendly programming. Then, for the 71-72 season, ABC switched it to Monday nights, and its ratings went through the floor. It was up against Rowan & Martins Laugh-in and Gunsmoke, so it never really had a chance. Too bad. Had ABC left it on Fridays, it may have lasted a couple more seasons.

The Big Valley was in its fourth season reruns when they nabbed Long to do Nanny. They had tried another pilot with a different actor but it didn’t sell. Long said he wasn’t sure about doing Nanny when he’d only been “off the tube for half a season” but he did the new pilot, it sold, he did the series and was happy he did.

LOVED this show and had a mad crush on Nanny. Even owned some of the paperbacks they put out fictionalizing the show. Sad that Mr. Long, who joined this after being a hit on "The Big Valley," was an abusive alcoholic. Then there's the case of Butch....

God, when I was a Kid I had no idea of whom she was in terms of her legacy. Haley Mills is her Sister and John is her Father. They are probably next to The Redgraves one of the most successful British Families to make it on US Soil.

Ha, yes, I remember this very well, the song is exactly as I remember but I seem to recall the opening images being rather different though, there was this rainbow which appeared during the opening as I recall along with other images and I think they showed bits of the show as well, of course, it was such a long time ago, hard to be sure, can't remember much of the stories either but I do know that when I was a kid I loved this show for some reason and never missed an episode :)

They were prolific and in -demand. Around 2000 Varese Sarabande released a cd of publisher demos of their songs circa '70. Harry Nilsson sang background vocals!!! Also, the cream of LA session players. They were so successful and lucrative the labels gave them free studio time-not an uncommon perk for high dollar songwriters of the time.
