2021 was another year of change with COVID-19 affecting our lives through long lockdowns and travel restrictions.
With your help we’ve been able to make a real difference, bringing science, technology and engineering education to life to hundreds of thousands of people in New Zealand and around the world.
At the start of the year our Impact Measurement team released a whitepaper with our findings that only 1 in 5 primary teachers regularly teach science in due to a lack of confidence in the subject. So we worked with teachers across the country both in person and online to share tools and ideas, and to support them in building confidence around STEM that could be easily applied to remote learning.
We made our digital STEM program Nanogirls Lab free to help all young people have access to science and technology learning at home, as well as delivered live science lab experiences virtually into classrooms.
We also launched STEMSTARS, brought to you by Genesis School-gen, a new program for primary school teachers designed to help bring STEM learning to life through fun Nanogirl stories and hands-on activities.
Our first Nanogirl retail product 'Clever Creatures of Aotearoa' launched helping children to learn away from their screens through a beautiful book exploring the superpowers of New Zealand’s amazing insects.
In a time of fast moving science our COVID vaccine webinars helped to bring cutting edge science knowledge to businesses and their employees helping them to make informed, evidence based decisions and learn how to source and interpret scientific data.
We also created over 100 science eLearning resources for Pacific island nations as part of a partnership with Catalpa and WINTEC, in a project with New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
