Just to understand how their italian brains work: The whole song is a parody of FIFA World Cup 1994 final match between Italy and Brazil, in Pasadena (USA), and Italy lost after penaly shootouts. Mr. Baffo plays "Roberto Baffo", a parody of Roberto Baggio, aka "The divine ponytail", the great italian soccer player who led Italy to final match and, sadly, failed the last penalty. Potowotominimak plays a "Potoreporter" named "Maurizio Kyiv", a parody of Maurizio "Mosca" a well knows italian TV journalist; in Italy "Mosca" is also the name given to "Moscow", so... you know. Mohamed Abdul, the guitarist, plays "Aladino Baggio, midfielder of Middle East", a parody of Dino Baggio, another player who played the final, and "Aladino" is the italian name for Alladin. Mohamed Addul, Aladdin, same origin. Gatto Panceri, the bassist (and astrophysicist who knows and speaks 16 different languages), plays "Giangatto Baresi", the parody of the great italian defender "Franco Baresi", another great hero who failed his penalty. Uinona Raider, the batterist, plays "Uinonadoni", whose name is the same as Roberto Donadoni, another italian player who played the final. General Sacchi, the bald guy, is a parody of "Arrigo Sacchi", italian coach in 1994, himself was bald and he used to wear sunglasses, during the final too. The italian voice is Bruno Pizzul, historical soccer commentator of italian TV during the final in 1994. The graphic itself reminds the graphic used during TV streams. In the last scene we can see "Ciao", the italian mascotte during Italy World Cup 1990, 4 years before, used as a tombstone that holds Roberto Baffo's divine ponytal. What else?

The whole song, along with the participation of Joakim himself, is a direct parody of "Christmas Truce", (Sabaton's song). I suggest you to react also that song, maybe just as a tie-in to the swedish metal band. 💪🏻 Anyway, "Pasadena 1994" is about FIFA World Cup final match between Italy and Brazil, won by the south-americans after the penalty lottery. But we made it 12 years later in Germany, against France 😂🇮🇹

It's great that Nanowar pretty much knew that Joakim agree to do this before they asked. He does have a history of doing fun stuff & Nanowar of Steel did perform at the Sabaton Open Air Festival 2022 (it's run by Sabaton in their hometown). As Joakim is the main song writer (I think Sabaton has 1 song he doesn't have credit on the music) & 50% of their lyric writing/history nerd duo (Pär is the other), his being in this means it's a Sabaton approved parody (or is this more like a tribute?). Joakim Brodén of Sabaton is a baritone, which is really rare for a lead singer in metal especially on the power metal end of it. I personally really enjoy his deeper vocals & it works really well with their songs. With him sounding (often) like a soldier yelling orders. He never wanted to be a singer and has no formal training, which makes it all the more impressive. He was originally just a keyboard player & songwriter (+ some guitar & bass), but Sabaton needed someone to sing in the rehearsals (in 1999) so he got stuck with it when they started to get gigs & made albums. Few tips for the inevitable Sabaton rabbit hole: - Their music videos are epic especially in the recent years (bigger band = bigger budget). - They are a GREAT live band. Their shows (Great Tour 2020, Wacken 2019, Woodstock 2012 etc.) are really worth seeing. The banter & the jokes are also big part of the live experience. - Sabaton has an additional youtube channel called Sabaton History, where they go through the real history behind their songs with Joakim, Pär (basist/band manager) & a historian Indy Neidell. - Almost all of their songs are about military history, except their first album (released 3rd in 2007, recorded in 2002) album "Metalizer", Metal Tribute songs: Metal Machine, Metal Crüe, Metal Ripper, Man Of War & the cover songs they've recorded.

In order to get into Sabaton, try out some of their funny stuff first, like "Metal Crue" (the wholy "story consists of band names), "Metal Machine" (the whole story consists of famous song titles) or 7734 (pokes fun at "evil metal" clichees, 7734 is hell when you turn the calculator around...and Do Glatem Live is evil metal god backwards... Have fun! :D

This would work as a new "The Last Stand" bonus track easily. I do not see any major connection to "Christmas Truce" as this is about a final battle. Nanowar even copies the penalty kicks sequence, where Italians failed. I love their creativity as it is such a great commedy based on really serious historical facts. BTW there are all major Sabaton's music elements, I love it!!! I was laughing the whole video and I believe it has extended my life time for a few hours ;-)

Very easy, if you like soccer and remember or have some knowledge about World Cup 1994 would enjoy this even more.

Sabaton's "Fields of Verdun" has been parodied as "Area 51".

This is is largely just parody of Sabaton... the song structure and sound is very Sabaton-y, elements of the song are largely inspired by Sabaton's "Last Stand" and "Bismarck", the lyrics reference "Last Stand", "Shiroyama" and possibly more,... People say "Christmas Truce", but other than the football thematic I honestly do not see it. It's the "best Sabaton song not done by Sabaton", stealing this title from some of songs from Heritage album by Radio TAPOK.

If I had one nickel everytime Castel Saint Angelo is mentioned in a metal song I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but surprising that it happened twice

Not sure you need to explore Sabaton after "Pasadena 1994" you have heard most of Sabaton's narrative history songs There are a lot of references to Sabaton songs and I can see Sabaton performing it themselves down to the guitar solo and the full lyrics. Just remember that Clausewitz should have said: "Football is the continuation of war by other means"

I can definitely hear the Sabaton in this haha yeah if you like this you will love Sabaton. They are just a tad more serious than this 😂
