9 жыл бұрынAuthor Naomi Novik talks about Her Majesty's Dragon and Throne of Jade, the first two books in her Temeraire series. The series is a fantasy version of the Napoleonic Wars - but with dragons functioning as an air force. She discusses the roles of men, women & dragons in the society, and how the aviators and dragons are considered an "outcast" group. She also talks about her experience in writing for video games prior to writing novels.
This interview was recorded at Balticon on 5/27/2006, and was originally shown as part of episode #192 of Fast Forward: Contemporary Science Fiction.

Each time I complete it, I'm overcome by the body of work that is the Temeraire series. My exploration into Ms Novik's writing process started here. Thx for your excellent nterview!

I've always imagined the (Mexican) Spanish translation temeraire being "tamarindo." Anyway, great books. I'm in the middle of League of Dragons. Great read!

Ships are always refered to as woman. Why not dragons?

I guess they have genders just like any other animals. Male and female. 🤷

Like orsik said, in the series dragons have genders, unlike ships, wich just have a feminine pronoun.
