What an exceptional demeanor she displays on court as well as off court for a 20 year old person. Obviously, she is very soft spoken but her poise, humble attitude and calmness cannot come without her inner ability of disciplining her conduct. In her interviews, when asked, she mentions that this US final wasn't the first match that she played against Serena Williams but she never tells that she beat her in the previous match. What a breath of fresh air this young athlete is! Congrats!!

@ninjapequin what's your point? Osaka was up a set... so what.. how many players have been up a set against the World's greatest tennis player, Serena, ? Being up a set doesn't guarantee winning the match.. The match was GIVEN to her. Point blank. 5 whole points is a lot of points to be gifted, especially to go up from 3 to 5.. what a joke. They wanted to punish Serena, so they gave her opponent free games.. since when is that called winning fair and square, by what standards... winning fair and square is just that...

I'm old (I don't know why I feel the urge to point that out so often) and I don't remember a tennis player winning a Grand Slam Championship while being overshadowed by the losing opponent. Ever. Yes, I watched McEnroe lose his mind on the court, especially against Connor and Borg. And the fans booed him for it; they didn't boo the umpire. Naomi outplayed Serena, and not for the first time. But all the media covered was Serena. Give this young champion her due; she earned this. She hasn't said a bad word about Serena; just the opposite, in fact. She was playing against one of her idols, and she played great tennis and kept her poise while doing so. That's what the story should be about.

+Aliana Wood I've seen plenty of instances/situations in which an athlete was nearing the end of her/his career and didn't want to let go. I've never seen fans actively booing as an aging champion was being dethroned. No, the fans weren't booing Naomi; but do you not think that she might have taken it that way. And the fans were booing because Serena turned the match into a bad joke that was all about her. Serena was wrong on every count: Her coach admitted that he was coaching from the stands; she (not somebody else) destroyed her racket; she then turned it into a sexism issue. Show me where you have seen this before.

WELL DONE! A lot of the interviews OSAKA did the last couple of days were primarily centered on talking about the US open game and how Serena had the incident with the REF. This interview actually focuses on Osaka. She is the new Serena Williams; THE GENERATION Z'S SERENA WILLIAMS. It's so cool how she came right around the time Serena is nearing the end of her career(I know she'll play for a couple more years). Anyway, good job on the excellent interview and CONGRATULATIONS OSAKA! You are super talented and you have an amazing character.

Sure, I'll give you a break because you've obviously lived in the U.S. your whole life, too, which explains why you can't see the cultural influence. Her mother is Japanese, and her father lived in Japan for years. They speak Japanese and practice Japanese customs at home. That's why she bows so often, even to the tennis court. Family culture is at least as big an influence as the ambient culture.

Way to go teen vogue. Probably the best interview of Naomi so far. This is the only interview of her I've come across that focuses on Naomi herself, her achievements and her career. Osaka is such a lady that we all can look up to. ❤

Wow👍🏾bravo and congratulations Naomi👏🏾🤗❤️. You deserve to win! You stayed cool, calm and focused despite a chaotic moment caused by Serena Williams 😳😟. She still didn't speak ill about Serena. Now that is a class act👏🏾👍🏾. Serena needs to privately apologize to Naomi for taking the excitement out of her first debut US Open Championship. Naomi, I wish you many more successes. Continue to stay, cool and calm in the midst of any chaos. Great interview by TeenVogue👍🏾👏🏾🤗❤️

Naomi you handled this most unfortunate situation with a grace and humbleness.THIS WAS HER DREAM TO PLAY HER IDOL SERENA AT THE US OPEN FINAL. Sadly, Serena, the crowd and the disgraceful comment by Katrina Adams "Perhaps this was not the finish we were looking for today". utterly spoiled Naomi's moment. Can you imagine? Naomi just achieved her dream and she should have been celebrated, not booed. Even with all those insulting comments and bad behavior by Serena, the crowd and Katrina Adams, Naomi apologized for winning because she knew if she were in the stand she would've been rooting for Serena. I am glad to see so many Americans and non-Americans applauding for Naomi's grace. So THANK YOU! Can someone please tell me name(s) of Grand Slam champions who were able to put her/him self in the crowd's shoes and think rationally why they behaved in the way they did? I'm Japanese and we were taught to be humble and gracious from childhood. Her mother clearly kept the tradition. Naomi even thanked the crowd for watching and thanked Serena for playing and took a bow. HOW SO JAPANESE OF HER! BTW: Naomi completely outplayed Serena, just saying.

She is not weird. She has not fully lost her innocence fully in spite of being in big stage. Part because of brought up and part because of her individual personality. Both will stand with her for quite a long time in her career. Wish her more laurels.

This is the very best interview revealing how Naomi won the match. Focusing on who Naomi really is and what Naomi is, rather than trying to create a drama around what her feeling and reaction were like about Serena... Salute to Naomi and Vera for the real class and professional interview.

As Vogue's interview, when referring to fashion, the white dress that Naomi had wearing in the photography after the US Open was Comme des Garcons. Designer Rei Kawakubo makes a costume for athletes is unusual. Kawakubo Rei is a designer who does not make money. That just that Naomi has charm.
