Pessimism can be so beautiful: German nautic doomers Ahab have not only created their very own subgenre, they are also incomparable dabblers in solemn melancholy! The Boats of the Glen Carrig is a novel by William Hope Hodgson from 1907 that tells the gruesome story of survival after shipwreck: the ice-cold embrace of the sea this as always has been turned to molten lead in the utmost atmospheric manner by Ahab! Since the band`s founding in late 2004, the four-piece has continuously worked its way to the top of (funeral) doom. The Boats of the Glen Carrig is their magnum opus and is gracefully nestled in between slow-motion anthems and haunting melodies.

So guys, this is one of the most "thalassophobian" soundscape of music that I ever heard of. First so peaceful, so beautifully intriguing and then it hits you like some force grabs you from below and drags you down into the oceanic abyss, feeling the pressure of your sorrounding water masses, and the unspeakable horror deep in the darkness under you that you cant see but -just like a shadow in the corner of your eye- terrorizes your primal instincts which release the purest Form of anxiety. You See gigantic shadows in the pitch black water - or are you just going insane? And a deeeeep gluttoral voice seems to speak to in your head. You don't quiet understand the words, but you know the meaning. You feel it in your guts. Ahab, I salute you. Great fucking album!

This is one of my most favorite albums of all time, I've listened to it over and over again. You can just feel the care that went into every song. I'm happy to see a band improve as it ages, too. Ahab are proper artists. It's also worth noting that this is a lot more interesting than the book itself lol.

Pre-ordered, listend endless time and read the book. An album which has an incredible depth and perfect sound. After many months the cd is still rotating in my car when I go to work. Even Opeth wasn't able to take me to such an intense voyage.

A sullen growling from afar The dark was full of it, I swear Aye, no word of which I've knowledge So well describes the hunger, most awesome to the ear

AHAB is not known for their 'catchy' songs/music, but I like them a lot anyway. It's very cool if you appreciate heavy, slow (sludge type) Doom/Death metal.
