The worlds biggest rap star was getting an allowance of 5-10k a month. Let that sink in
@kanayomadu99143 ай бұрын
Not that. That was for the other artists most of whom didn't have records out yet. 'Pac and Snoop had a monthly allowance higher than what the other artists got. 'Pac got $50k a month or so. Reggie Wright said 'Pac had renegotiated it to $75k after he was granted Makaveli Records. But all that's recoupable money. 'Pac's audit was supposed to be due August 1996 by which time his album was sextuple platinum. Add to that about $2.5m advance he got; money spent on videos: 50% of which is recoupable...

Frank Alexander broke down the math. And the math didn't add up on the money. Because Pac was trying to figure out why he was sending Frank Alexander every Friday to pick up 5k for him. So Suge was giving Pac at least 20k a month. But the money still didn't add up to what he should've been getting for selling millions. And that is one problem that Pac had with Suge. Even to the point of calling an audit. As Frank Alexander said. And that audit was told to Frank Alexander and Kevin Hackey. But the only reason why Hackey is still alive, is because he was undercover for the feds. And LAPD don't want to be playing with the feds.

Also people need to remember that as soon as Dr Dre Chronic album released in 1992 and it sold multiple millions of copies there was still legal cases against Andrew Young aka Dr Dre for how he assaulted and kicked female hip-hop show hostess Dee Barnes and had other legal cases including breach of contract with Eazy E and Ruthless Records. Then Snoop Doggy Dogg got into that shooting case turned to murder case where the State of California gonna put him in prison for either first or second degree murder and Suge made sure to pay all those legal fees. So Deathrow Records was successful but there was dumb actions and legal cases at them.

@ryand45333 ай бұрын
He right Suge did better by them than any white label would have. Because your album doesn’t make money right out the door. Especially back when you had to pay to print physical copies and put in physical stores. Record labels don’t pay the studios they use to make the albums for 90-120 days after you’ve sent them the bill. Same thing when the store sells their albums they don’t send that money immediately. I’m not positive but it’s probably also 90-120 later depending on the distribution contract I would assume. Definitely more than 30 days before a store is sending money back to the distribution house. Then the distribution house has a month or 3 before they kick back to the label. He learned after he got more time in the industry it’s about a year before you getting paid that’s why labels advance artist money to keep them afloat and hopefully out of the street.

I feel that if Tupac ever mentioned anything about "where's my money?" That is really has to do with his second album "Strictly 4 My N_____z" (1993) reaching either one million or two million sold in early to mid 1995 way before he was released from prison. Then "Me Against the World" (1995) had reached one million but had sold an additional million in 1995 alone. Plus Thuglife Volume 1 (1994) was said to have sold 500,000 aka Gold but note that the album did not have 2Pac's name on it so people who weren't into Pac may have slept on the album during 1995. I feel Tupac was saying that about Interscope Records cause that money was supposed to go directly to Tupac once he got out of prison but there is where the shady stuff was happening cause All Eyez On Me released in February 1996 so it would take until February 1997 for that money to come in unless there's something else given how it quickly sold quadruple platinum aka 4 million copies in 1996 alone.

Albums was 12-20 bucks during that time and Pac was guaranteed platinum plus every time out. Suge was using the money he made from Dre, Snoop and Pac to pay people who had nothing to do with nothing. No, it is not. How many times have you given an employee 10K for work not done in advance? Niggas need to stop asking for 4 - 250k$ cars if they don't want to pay for them afterwards. Same thing that all these artists say as they lose in court 95% of the time. When the Lox was on Bad Boy and they thought Puffy had to pay, they liked Benz's, but later in life, when they had to pay, they liked Tahoe's. Suge is NOTORIOUSLY known to be extremely generous, which is why the artists that didn't sell Jack shit speak so highly of him. Snoop Dogg had ten cars in his driveway. Every ti.e he liked a car Death Row went to the dealership and delivered the exact car to his house. He didn't have to write a check. Then, the only complaint was how come these cars ain't in my name when mostly all businesses make purchases through their Business Accounts not personal checks. Just my opinion… I’ve just heard a lot of artists from that time period saying they thought the label was hooking them up with all this stuff but really it was out of the money from their deal and was being charged to them. Wouldn’t be surprised if the major label paid Suge out and it was his job to pay the artists but instead he held the money and gave them an allowance and bought them “gifts” trying to look like the good guy until the artists got hip to it.

Giving an artist an allowance is no justification or should never deflect from the fact Suge was robbing his artists blind. When Afeni came to collect what Pac was owed Suge resisted paying her, even saying Pac actually OWED Death Row money, despite the fat All Eyez On Me was well on its way to becoming Diamond and the Makaveli album had dropped and was on its way to being 5x Platinum. So even if he did give Pac the higher end, $10k per month and paid rent on his house and lease on his car, that’s around $120k. We don’t know what PAC’s contract was, but he generated $100m+ for Death Row on solo projects alone never mind the movie soundtracks he brought to the label on top of that, so regardless of what his deal was % wise, I’m sure he was due a helluva lot more than the couple of hundreds of thousands Suge was giving him in “allowances”

@@dnam727 You don't get his point which mean you don't know how credit works. Pac probably didn't have any credit to purchase a million dollar house or bentley. So Suge had to pay for it.
