As a Napoli fan, there is a lot I can upon this situation. First of all, Napoli made a very poor decision in bringing in Rudi Garcia as manager, as he just wasn’t good enough to manage reigning Serie a champions, especially considering that he was way past his best years. The Napoli dressing room was also very unhappy during Garcias time at the club, which ultimately affected the performances of the players. After Garcia was sacked, Napoli brought in Mazarri, who although had past experience with the club, was not the right choice for Napoli, as his tactics are now very outdated, and similar to Garcia, he is way past his best performances as a manager. In terms of transfers, napolis summer window was underwhelming, mainly only bringing in an underperforming striker who is on loan at frosinone, a prospect goalie who was loaned out, an underperforming lindstrom, and Natan, a great centre back but nowhere near the greatness of Kim min Jae. Napoli needed to do much more in the summer to even have a chance for ucl. Their winter window however wasn’t actually too bad, bringing in Dendoncker and traore on loan to buys, and also signing ngonge, who looks to be a great signing so far. Still, the team is playing their worst football in years, with their midfield not even being close to their great performances last season, and many players having a huge lack of confidence. Although Napoli is in a terrible state currently, I believe that with good transfers and a good coaching change next season, Napoli will be back in the ucl, because after all, this club still has class players, and Kvara will likely stay next season. To conclude, Napolis downfall this season was mainly caused by underwhelming transfers, poor coaching decisions, and the lack of happiness in the dressing room. Although Napoli is playing some of their worst football in years, don’t be surprised if they are in the top 4 or 5 next season, as long as the club makes smart moves for players and for managers.

I've seen this happening pretty often to teams winning a league title again after a really long time or for the first time with new players who've never won it before. I think that other than key players leaving or managers changing, another big factor is the morale of the players. Winning a title feels like you've completed football, it feels like this is the end of everything. You're on top of the world and you are celebrating your title like crazy. But, slowly, the new season starts, and it's really hard to get yourself back together. It's hard to stop that feeling of having won everything, even though you know it's only one season and a new one will start soon. Your brain just goes into break/relaxation mode, and when the new season starts the players will feel way less motivated to play because of that feeling of already having completed the goal. It feels like restarting a really long videogame after you win it. You might not be as hyped as the first time, so everything feels kind of "bland", like there is no point in doing it.
