Enjoy a fall 1996 run of D&RGW steam locomotive No. 346 and Rio Grande Southern "Galloping Goose" No. 7 at the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden. Denver & Rio Grande Western No. 346 is the oldest operating steam locomotive in the intermountain west. Built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1881, No. 346 worked for the Denver & Rio Grande through World War II. It was loaned to another Colorado narrow gauge road, the Colorado & Southern, in 1936. During its time on C&S it was wrecked in a runaway and was rebuilt by the Chicago Burlington & Quincy's Denver shops. This historic locomotive was purchased in 1950 by Colorado Railroad Museum founder Bob Richardson, and has been operating at CRRM since the early 1960s. Motor car No. 7, a Rio Grande Southern "Galloping Goose," was created from a freight box mounted on an automobile frame. They were used in passenger and freight service in southwestern Colorado.
