Rock Lee was supposed to have more impact on the series but he was clearly overshadowed by Guy when he opened the last gate to fight Madara. Only way for Rock Lee to surpass his teacher now is if he opens the last gate and doesn't end up as disabled as Guy but that's pretty pointless at this point tbh. It's clear that both Sasuke and Naruto surpassed their teachers, Kakashi + Jiraya for Naruto and Kakashi + Orochimaru for Sasuke. But Rock Lee's ascension seems really impossible right now. they fucked his character up. I hate the way they're writing the Boruto series...

I know people mostly watch the show for the action. But part of the point of the show/manga is people achieving their dreams. Rock Lee's dream was to become a splendid ninja. He overcame his shortcomings and he proved that he was a splendid ninja despite his lack of Ninjutsu or Genjutsu. Unfortunately, we never saw him defeat Neji. So, in my opinion, Rock Lee's story is over. Yeah, they could have given him a new goal to strive for. But there had to be room for every character to accomplish their dreams. I know people wanted to see more from him, but I see Rock Lee's story as being finished.

Rock Lee really has nothing and trains the most compared to everyone else. Naruto was shown to be an idiot, the handicapped one and yet he has the Nine Tails, his father was the 4rth and his mother was from a very strong clan with a lot of beefy chacra. He in fact if i am not mistaken has Hashirama's blood running in his veins. Naruto didn't struggle at all when it came to training, he mastered his skills faster than the geniouses before him. Naruto struggled socially but never on the field or training grounds like Rock Lee. Naruto was weak mostly because of his own stupidity and the Nine Tails was always there to save him. I know that the show is called Naruto but Rock Lee embodies what the show is all about. Naruto is a privilaged character that has the most gifts.
