Lyrics:
If I ruled the world (Imagine that)
I'd free all my sons, I love 'em, love 'em, baby
Black diamonds and pearls
(Could it be, if you could be mine, we'd both shine?)
If I ruled the world
(Still living for today, in these last days and times)

Three things to appreciate about this: 1: Nas 2: The Lauryn Hill Hook 3: That remarkable bassline Goosebumps. Perfection.

I'd add a 4th (and this is probably music nerdy, lol) 4. The two chords in the hook. Going from the minor to the major back to the minor repeatedly...along with the little instrumental effect with the counter-rhythm in the background, and combined with the usual hip-hop beat creates some kind of effect that's hard to explain. It's quite unique, and it's kinda stuck with me since I was a child...great rap song!

I’m 21 years old. My thing is... these 90”s rappers were in their early 20”s hell some of them teens and their vocabulary was just fucking insane. Not even just their vocabulary their outlook on life and how they put their experiences into raps. Wutang, nas, mobb deep so many others. I just find absolutely crazy how ahead of their age they were and still are. My mom actually worked with wutang on their second album she’s on wu revolution with popa wu R.I.P. it’ll never really sink in with me that my mom has literally worked with the greatest rap group in history. Her name is SAY Wonder Woman she writes raps and sings. She’s on cappadonnas hook off album from 2014, and Ghostface recent project cream of the crop. Peace and much respect to the 90”s man beyond legendary era❗️❗️❗️💪🏿

When I was your age, at 21, I remember that Mobb Deep released Infamous. When I heard Shook Ones Pt2, especially "Every rhyme I write is 25 to life" and "Your crew is featherweight, my gunshots will make you levitate", I had no idea that they were 18-19 at the time, and even younger than myself. So when I heard "I'm only 19, but my mind is older", I was shocked. Those lines have always stuck with me. They seem simple to write, but they are actually quite deep, and can hold several levels of meanings.
@owenyoung9645

Yes for sure I just listened to shook ones last night again. I can’t believe prodigy was only 19. It’s mind boggling. He even says it himself “I’m only 19 but my mind is old, and when things get real my warm heart turns cold” like I think of my self as a old soul but these dudes were just on a whole other level.

The thing about Nas is he's sold over 40 million albums, he's critically acclaimed, known as being one of the top 5 hip hop artists ever and he's still underrated. Many of you will say otherwise but if I asked you who the best 5 NBA players are of all time and you said Jordan is 5th, that would be the type of underrated I'm talking about.

...What? As a ball fan and a hip-hop fan, that analogy was horrible😂Michael Jordan is in everybody's top 3 at least. Tbh, you should've compared Nas' underrated thing to Larry Bird, who people tend to overlook despite his amazing career. And then even calling Nas underrated is just blasphemy😂😂cause he is most definitely isn't underrated. He may not be mainstream, he may not be as known as guys like Tupac, Biggie, and Eminem, but in the hip-hop world the dude is touted as top 3 all the time. Rakim or Big L honestly would've been better examples😂those guys are all-timers yet overlooked by many as usual. Nobody says Jordan is only 5th best ever, and anybody who isn't ignorant knows that Nas is not underrated. I don't agree with this personally, but we all entitled to our opinion tho

It was a very violent and dangerous time. The Creative and Genius Music from the Artists was being overlooked and sidelined by the Tabloid Fueled "East Coast vs. West Coast Rap Wars" Which was I think just as confusing to the Artists as the rest of the World. 2 Great Iconic Artists lost their lives but imo I don't think the murders were related but intended to look related. Edit: and those who listened to his music the generation they spoke to,These Comgressional Committees thought that these men were bragging. 'Bragging, perhaps because they were disenfranchised for *generations* and the Streets started speaking I'm just a white girl from the South these are all just...just opinions from the Outside Looking In..., I will never understand what they went through but I sure as fuck will listen to their Art and what they have to say.
