In summer 2022, high school student Pristine Onuoha won the Genes in Space contest by designing an experiment that provided a novel way to measure DNA lengths in space using fluorescence. In July 2023, she watched from Earth as astronauts Frank Rubio, Sultan El-Nayadi, and Steven Bowen, carried out consecutive runs of her winning experiment aboard the International Space Station.
