I've always found it funny that people bashed NASCAR 08, yet praise PC racing sims when they are identical games. NASCAR 08 is powered by an early version of what we now know as the isiMotor engine - EA purchased it from ISI in 04 or 05. This engine also powers the following games: - Automobilista - Race 07/GTR Evolution - GTR 2 - rFactor - ARCA Sim Racing - Project CARS (the engine is highly modified which is why they can call it the "Madness" engine) - RaceRoom Racing Experience ...and basically every other PC racing sim you've played that isn't Assetto Corsa or iRacing Every PC racing sim uses a physics model nearly identical to NASCAR 08, and has janky AI like NASCAR 08. It's the same train-track AI and the same weird collision physics when you rub up against another car, try it for yourself if you don't believe me. If you were to play the original rFactor with a gamepad, or ARCA Sim Racing with a gamepad - two games which are supposedly the bastion of late 2000's PC racing sims - you'd have an almost identical experience of weird crashes, jank, and muddy controls. It really speaks volumes about the state of sim racing and how many people are willing to put up with obvious jank in the games, just because they have a "simulator" label and go in with a different mindset. If you play NASCAR 08 with a wheel it's literally no different than ARCA Sim Racing.

I have many many hours of play on this and 09 both. They have their quirks and problems, but I’m going come out and say that several of the handling problems you are experiencing are driver related. Also making custom setups or at least tweaking the standard or veteran setups will make a world of difference.

Drivers actually have to sign a contract to appear in an EA game, Carl wasn't in 07 or 08 because he had a contract with another company at the time that didn't allow him to be in those games. Carl was in 05 as a truck series driver though. If you notice, most of the truck and Nationwide Series drivers are either Cup drivers or fictional drivers. And yes he is in NASCAR 09.

The nascar heat games make this game look like a godsend. Well visually and the damage is really good. But you're right. I've witnessed it. The car is incredibly sensitive to spinning out via the thumbstick. But mess around with the setups. You can get it to your liking.

I hated this game when it came out and never bought 09 the next year... this after owning every EA NASCAR game at time since NASCAR 99 AND my fav driver being on the cover (Jeff Gordon). Honestly the main turn off was my car felt like it was made out of foil. The slightest contact would show massive damage and like u said.. it’s visually disappointing 🙄 I barely touched him cmon! The other turnoff was the drivers seemed to try and drive THRU me like i weren’t even there half the time. No you can’t come down! I’m already here geeez! It was so annoying lol but thx for the trip down memory lane into this awful game

Is this game (despite various controller/steering setups) nearly „unplayable“, especially the oval tracks? Cos I loved to play EA‘s #NASCAR series (from 97 on..) and thought about getting it, just to be back in the saddle. But if it tends to be that damn frustrating I think I‘ll refrain from purchasing it

It’s funny watching someone else play the game and struggle more than me @realradman if you turn down the sensitivity you can turn a bit better but then it has a glitch where you steering locks dead straight or dead left randomly and will basically end your race in an instance
