Watch the Nascar Garage #56 entry going through the French night as Mike Rockenfeller is beginning his stint during the 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans FP2.
The FIA World Endurance Championship is the world’s premier international sportscar championship, contested over seven rounds across North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. With multiple cars across three categories (Hypercar, LMP2 and LMGTE Am) all on track at the same time, the WEC is a sports car extravaganza that offers action, overtakes, excitement and entertainment for fans worldwide.

I'm here at Le Mans and you can always hear where the Camaro is running around. Cadillac and the Nascar has by far the best sound on the track. Love it. 🇺🇲 Let the ground shake again! 😂

TRUE. Welcome to NASCAR! Also, this isn't the first time NASCAR race cars have tried this adventure. It had also happened in 1976, when a Dodge Charger and a Ford Torino came down the long Mulsane Straight when they ran for the 24h race that year (Obviously in a class named "NASCAR"). Sadly, neither finished the race, but on the long straights they were said to be much faster even than those long-tailed Porsches, even if they weighed nearly twice as much as they did.

I mean, the gearbox got destroyed mid race Normally that would be the end for a team at Le Mans, cause gearbox changes aren't allowed, but being an experimental entry the organization allowed them to change it

They won the pit stop challenge with those manual jacks while everyone else is running pneumatic ones installed on the cars.

They actually were going to install the normal pneumatic jacks, but the ACO and the FIA said, "use your manual jacks, do your normal pitstop outside of the fuel hose"

Engine will be fine at 8k rpm they used to spin then up above 10k and it's detuned if it's NASCAR spec to around 600hp used to be up around 900hp

I love that the car is getting so much love, and the driver line up is a dream team. I grew up appreciating nascar, never loving it as much as other motorsports though. But with these new cars that they have been running, it truly is offering better racing, and now we can see, more versatility too!

They should honestly take this car and turn it into either a fully fledged series or a class. The car looks awesome, performs at a pace thats near the pace that gtes have and sounds amazing.

My thinking is that NASCAR should consider making this the basis for a road course package within the Cup Series. They already have a separate aero/engine package for the superspeedways. If road courses are going to be a big part of the NASCAR calendar from now on, maybe having a specific package for those courses.

it doesnt just have the pace.. its Faster by 5 secs.. and over 10 with the pitstops.. this has a honest chase at topping the GTEs assuming they make it the 24Hrs

@@curious_ember heres the thing is i don't think it will a mechanical fault that will take them out if it was to be anything because they have done multiple 24 endurance tests and the car didn't blow up or have anything serious go wrong so a possible threat probably is a safe bet i say they probably will be a lap or two ahead of the GTE cars if they keep the nose clean they are the fastest on track and pit road and the cars reliable

It's so awesome seeing European NASCAR fans. I've always had a deep love and respect for all forms of motorsport, but I grew up on NASCAR. So to not only see a stock car at Le Mans, but to also see that you guys love it over there is amazing. Much love from the states

Despite the schedules, the fans are present in front of the only French TV channel which broadcasts the nascar (with more racing than advertising) Foreign pilot participation no easy... i know... but its comming :) 1 French pilot can to it (Citroen FR brand did it well in 1958'

I was at le mans tests last weekend, that v8 sound had everyone shook everytime it flew by, you could feel your organs vibrate. The 911 rsr is great, the cadillac very nice, but that nascar cup car is really something else we aren’t used to in europe at all

Honestly, if NASCAR can make it happen, I would love to see this car at all of the Cup series road courses soon. I'd imagine it would improve the racing better than any other aero package they can think of.

Really expensive ask. But imagine if NASCAR can help teams convert the cars etc. 43 Cup Cars, lighter, better brakes, more overall downforce at places like Road America? Watkins Glen (full course)? Mid-Ohio? I'd love to see four hours of these at Daytona (Road Course) on the 4th of July. Run the race from 5 pm to 9 pm. It would be a hell of a show with the headlights etc.

This has nothing to do with respect. There are often a "different kind of car" on track during Le Mans. Cars that are out of the ordinary classes that are running, and most often concept cars. It's nice to see different cars at this legendary race, and makes it, in my opinion, more entertaining with an even further mix of classes. I'd gladly welcome even a Formula 1 car, which again has nothing to do with respect, but just pure entertainment. That said, we will probably never see a Formula 1 car, as they aren't designed to go for more than about two hours at a time - but it would be cool nonetheless.

I know NASCAR loves cutting cost and running those little plastic shells on top of the chasis, but this car? a breath of fresh hair, an actual car. Looks amazing! Was listening to someone talk from NASCAR recently and they were at the 24hrs of Daytona, and they themselves said its odd how throughout evolution of time that NASCAR's are less of stock cars than what the GT3 cars are... He was just basically stating how he loved seeing actual cars out there racing and not plastic shells edit: cant think of it was, maybe kenny wallace, denny hamlin, or someone on Door Bumper Clear, always listening to a vast array of motorsports podcast.

They took 400lbs out but it still has an iron engine block! I hope the crowd enjoys the car. I also hope the press catches on that this car can't "beat" the GTEs as it isn't running in their class. It isn't really competing with anything except itself.

@@Glitchunlocked A Hypercar beating the GTEs doesn't mean much because it's a less restricted class, it's actually expected, Garage 56 is pretty much unrestricted, so they could win the overall if they wanted to modify the car enough.

I mean...its a car made for top speeds in a circuit full of long straights. If you put it against a GTE car at any other road course it will get smashed so... It isnt like the Nascar is completely out of its environment. Its top speed was 314kph against 298 from the closest GTE... I'm not sure but I think Nascars have around 900hp right? And the GTEs have around 600hp.

Im from the Netherlands and grew up on 90s F1, Touring cars and endurance racing. Been following Nascar and Indycar for a couple of years now and this is a hugely impressive effort. I was watching Rocky do a night stint and he was attacking the apexes incredibly hard. It was incredible. This machine is awesome and id love to see a couple of these run at Lemans next year!

I was lucky enough to touch that beautiful machine at @radwood charlotte at Hendrick a few months ago. Seeing it side by side with another "next gen" was wild with all of the changes with the lighting and aerodynamics. Carbon brakes. Just beautiful.

Love this car. This should be the car nascar uses. ⁠ this car is a nascar but without power restrictions that they use in CUP. Also this car went on a diet and has some active aero and had downforce added and don’t forget real headlights and tail lights. Goodyear also has developed a special tire just for this race

Honestly as an American i was never a fan of the sport of NASCAR, but I always admired the nature of the high revving V8. I love how an underdog proved the nonbelievers wrong. NASCAR has come a long ways with technology, but the roots of endurance really showed through. The pushrod V8 might be simple in design, but thats the beauty of it; less to go wrong. This reminds me of the Group 5 class that ran into the 80’s

Considering how long those cars hold hi revs, I'm not concerned about the engine much. But if it's the standard gear box, this will be a great test to see how much abuse those things can take.

Only a little disappointed they didnt steal an Aussie Supercars six speed for it but keeping it original as possible is understandable.

It's a 5 speed sequential, as per ACO requirement. However, with a dog box manual I think it would run just fine

To the point that (I think?) Jim Glick was making near the end of the video about the life of a Cup Series engine: In prior generations of NASCAR Stock Car, the engine and gearbox would *usually* (not always, but there were probably only rare exceptions) be torn down and rebuilt after every race event...so around a 500 mile lifespan for certain parts within those components. The ethos of the "Next-Gen" (Gen 7, for those counting) Cup Series regulations was to dramatically cut down on these expensive maintenance procedures. The current spec of engine/gearbox in NASCAR has a rough lifespan of around 12,000 miles (with 3500 mile markers for intermittent gearbox service). The R07 engine in this Camaro is largely unchanged from its oval-racing contemporaries.

Love it, the sound is brutal ! Having a Nascar category at Le Mans would be awesome :) Or even Xfinity cars mixed with LM GTEs ? They would """only""" have to adapt the carburetor restrictions to make it competitive with each other

This was a great edition of le mans. A lot of hypercars, return of nascar, among others. The engine sounds different from normal nascar

I'm happy that this is getting so much love. Imagine NASCAR being upgraded to such specs for their Road versions... Also this keeps me reminded of Pixar's next generation cars
