True story.....this was Natalie’s favorite song as a child; in that her father would sing it to her often.....also, she stated in an interview that at her father’s wake, this song came on over the speakers and she broke down...on another note....guess who else named this HIS favorite song....some guy named MICHAEL JACKSON

Saw her in concert in 1980. S Looking backwards I know she was already in trouble substance wise but you would not see it in her performance. She was superb!

Yes, it seems to my observation that NATALIE's mother was controlling. But, Natalie herself, could be a handful. She was sassy, with an angry twist. She WAS NOT the Natalie we all know today. I was her FIRST agent during her senior year at UMASS. Upon graduation, I asked her what was next for her. "GONNA GO TO GRAD SCHOOL THIS FALL and become a child psychologist." I said; "No,no,no, NO ! You are a SINGER !" She said;"BUT My MOM just spent $20k on my education ! I can't do that to her, and Mom said record companies just work you to death anyway." I said; "You are a SINGER ! And you have the talent to control your career! The talent to tell 'whoever' that you only want to work 1 show a week or 8 nights a week! JUST SAY IT IN A NICE WAY ! I'll get you work 6 nites a week this summer. And Decide in September if you still want to be a head doctor. BUT YOU HAVE TO TALK WITH YOUR MOTHER. Two weeks later Natalie, Maria, and myself met with my Connecticut agent-friend DICK GRASS. Agreements were signed. A new band put together. She gets 6 nights week work.Three months later in September, she signs with ICM. And the rest is HERSTORY. I am very proud and happy she listened to me. ESPECIALLY my words... Did you hear her say the song was given to her Dad by Charlie Chaplin? Chaplin wrote the melody for his "Modern Times" movie. Lyrics came later.

Best version is her dad's but this is the next best version, maybe followed by Doris Day's version. Searched all the versions recorded and this and her Dad's version is by far the better versions out there. But of course that is just my opinion.
