Bless you India. Makes me smile that you didn't know Nat King Cole and played this anyway. This song revived Natalie's (Nat's daughter) career in the 1990s. After struggling on tour for many years, she got the idea to do this album with vocals by her late father and this was the signature song. I believe it won a whole bunch of Grammys and afterwards got her huge audiences like the one shown here. Nat King Cole was so revered by my generation and my parents' generation as well. The day Natalie died I cried like a baby remembering the beauty of them both. You get 10,000 bonus subscriber points for that one.

Bless you, sweetie! This is one of the most touching performances ever. It always makes me cry. Natalie was only 8 when her father died...and this virtual duet was the perfect thing for her to do later in life...much later. (BTW - his stage name (real name, too?) was Nat (pronounced like "gnat", the small pesky fly), not Nate.) Nat King Cole was the smoothest male voice of the entire 20th century...maybe of all time.

Originally, "Unforgettable" was sung as a love song by Nat King Cole in 1952. His daughter, Natalie, who was 15 when her father died in 1965, released it as a duet with her dad's previously recorded vocals in 1991 when she was 41. And it became a touching tribute representing the love between a parent and child. You may have heard Natalie's big solo R&B/pop hit from 1975 (when she was 25) called "This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)," either on TV commercials or maybe when you were a child with your grandparents.

Nat was one of the biggest artist of his time and was the first Africa America man to have his own TV show, but since the racism of the times not many tv stations wanted to air his show even if he was the best. Natalie was his daughter. Nat died a week after her 15th birthday. She was at boarding school when she found out. Natalie started singing in the 70's and you should react to her music. Mr. Melody, Can We Get Together Again, and other. She also went thought a bad time with drugs which led to her health problem later in her life. In the 90's she made a Jazz album as a tribute to Nat's music.

When Nathalie started her singing career, lots of the places that she was initially booked in expected her to cover her father, but her music was disco, which was the music of the time. She became successful on her own, but got dragged down with the substance abuse common in that era. She cleaned herself up by the late 80s, and after performing some with her music, she reached out to some of the folks that had performed with her father. They backed her in the full album of her covering her father’s songs, but this was the one that she made most faithful, changing it from a song of a man to the one he loves to them singing their love to each other. I grew up with Nat King Cole as part of the music I heard and have a few separate renditions of his version over the years. When I first saw the official video, which has here with a picture album in a dark room, I broke out crying. 30 years after this came out, I still cry. It is not easy to find the official video, but I recommend it as the love they share is obvious throughout. Nathalie did more of her own music, successfully, but she came back with a second album of more of his songs and one of his Christmas songs along the way. Still, this was probably her most successful album because of the obvious love.

Nate King Cole was one of the greatest artists of the 1950s and 1960s. His daughter was unbelievably talented and beautiful. She always wanted to sing with her father. For it's time, her effort on this performance was radically new, that is, singing with someone who had been dead for decades. Amazing.
