Eddie Levert and Gerald Levert present the Adult Contemporary Artist award to Natalie Cole. In her acceptance speech, Cole talks about how she enjoys winning this award considering the fact that Whitney Houston was also nominated in the same category, and how it is difficult when friends are up for the same award. She thanks all of her fans for accepting and loving her music because that has changed her life.

Whitney had always been so gracious and kind towards her peers. She was brought up to be a classy and generous woman. And I guess with the kind of talent that she has, she didn't need to be a witch towards others. Only girls of less talent and accolades would be such a monster in treating her peers.

Natalie’s honesty and humility was just really so endearing. I remember when she released the remakes of her fathers songs. And let me tell you, those old standards became pop chart worthy in the 1990’s. And all due to her special ability to touch other people. Those were great times. She will truly be missed

Those two were very close. Whitney actually stayed with Natalie after a stint in rehab. She also called Natalie's 2nd husband, the abuser, Tick Tick Boom because she felt he was a powder keg just waiting to explode, which he did, and it was Whitney and a few others who got her through the aftermath of that marriage. Those two are probably in heaven talking sh*t and singing.
