I have the most profound admiration for singer songwriters who can make me dance in the morning with a single voice, a piano and nothing to fluff it up. It takes courage to fill the room with only what your fingers can squeeze out of the keys, your voice getting loose and your most honest words.

Am I cold? No. Chills. Within 50 seconds. Twice. Super fine. The spaces. The believability in your vocal delivery. Now to the content. I suppose it takes level ground before we trip. Lots of it. The level ground even becomes our expectation and that is why we trip. The trip is like 1% or less yet gets 99% of our attention. But that’s ok because it hurts. It hurts us or others. But after the hurt, after the repair, isn’t it just true that things were nearly entirely level? But but I don’t want to be grateful for level ground. Me neither. But the truth is, that’s why we tripped. Maybe there’s a correlation between being grateful (for what we assume should be ours) and tripping on life. Maybe being grateful for level ground makes us see it again and thereby also be able to see the contrast of the trip hazard. “you are faithful” yes. Yes yes yes. Again and again and again, that sentiment, expressed the way you sang it, is so true.

I love this sort of “winding road” style of poetry in lyrics where you take a roundabout way to describe something but you still understand 100% what it’s about. This song doesn’t mention God at all by name but you KNOW it’s about Him. Powerful stuff.
