Tip for younger people that's not so obvious these days. If you're catching a flight with your film cameras do not let any film new or used go through the security x-ray machine. The x-rays expose the film and will ruin your photos or any new film you are carrying. Let security know about your film, and do not pack it in your stow away baggage either as those bags get x-rayed too. It's also best to not have any film in the camera as security may insist the camera needs to be x-rayed, so only load film after your flight, and use it all up before coming back. Airports used to have lots of warnings to remind people, but these days not many do.

Hi! Thank you for the warning but I've traveled many times with my Polaroid cameras before and that hasn't happened to any of them. Does that just apply to older cameras? Because now I'm nervous that it might happen and it would be such a waste. Thanks in advance!

Lots of modern film don’t have a vintage aesthetic. You could try expired film but that is really hit or miss. Try lomography film and film with a higher grain for that old look. You could also try push or pull the film when developing.

I’d say go for disposable for people that just want try Go for point and shoots for those that just want to do exactly that, which is to point and shoot. It’s a step up form disposables And go for the SLRs and rangefinders, if you really want to learn photography. Or if you just wanna get a bit more serious, since point and shoots have very little level of control.

Got a EOS Rebel Ti body that used the same EF mount lenses my Rebel T6 DSLR can, for 50$ I can use it to play around with 35mm film with manual controls and or automation in a silver camera I don't need to stress over. Also dug out a Polariod Impulse AF that I got years ago as a kid because instant cameras seemed so cool at the time, now I can finally get the Polaroid 600 film cartridges to actually use it, kinda happy with younger me finding a decent camera and not breaking it XD

The point and beauty of instant film cameras is the spontaneous feel of photography! Using a instant film printer defeats the point, it’s convenient, but it’ll never beat that feeling of being able to take instant photos and sharing them with people right then and there!☺️

For beginners I recommend avoiding fixed focus cameras and making sure there’s autofocus. For cheaper film Kodak Colorplus 200 or Kodak Gold 200 seem like better options than Kodak Ultramax 400 or Fujifilm 200 (forget the exact name of that one). Ofc it’s subjective though :)

I was an Army photojournalist back in the late 80s. I use primarily 35 mm SLRs because I have more control of the shot. If I. Want more or less depth of field or not and composition. Not to mention the different lenses to get the best photo. Our lieutenant used one of the point and shoot cameras like your Minolta, only his lens didn’t zoom out as much. But he got some really good photos from it. When my son went on a field trip with his 6th grade class to the Grand Canyon. I got him a disposable camera to use. And he took some goo pictures with it. They’re good for snapshots and vacations photos. By the way. You have a really good SLR. I would say one of the best. Most pictures done at f8 and above you have good depth of field and you can prefocus based on the distance scale on the lens it’s what I did most of the time to get quick action shots. I also have an auto focus. But it takes too long to focus. And I miss the shot. So half the time I shoot it on manual mode except at night.

Those are the types of shooting I’ve done too. I used to carry those disposable cameras around with me all the time. Back in the 90’s, I’d make sure to always have one in my coat pocket. When I was a little kid, all the grownups had the Polaroid instant cameras. So I got to mess with those too. The only point n’ shoot types I’ve used are digital. I have a Canon PowerShot from the early 2000’s. Has plenty of features and 8mp. We still use that one.

Both awesome cameras I use regularly. instants are nice for certain occasions, I have an old Polaroid and a Instax that I jsut use in situations where I wanna see it right then and there. I have a manual and it’s definitely an interesting process, although I don’t use it very much. Disposables are ok, I’ve used two of them and all I have to say is point and shoots are better. I usually find myself carrying around a point and shoot, sometimes an instant, and barley a manual. Although I love my manual i just don’t use it as much lol, If I had to choose one it would be point and shoot, there just awesome.

my favorite film shooting is on Medium format and then using an enlarger to print the film... no scanning that turns it into a digital photo. Lighting is very important depending on what look you are going for. For instance I would use digital for sports photography. Also digital for most weddings. There is a photographer in San Francisco who does tintype photos using a modern camera. The flash is extremely bright so the exposure isn't long. It has a very narrow depth of field. He scans the photo and prints it with a photo ink jet and archival inks. I would love to do something like that... but you need to be in a large market... maybe NY or San Francisco with millions of people to get enough business. The people who use your film photography service have to know and respect the craft of doing it old school. The cool thing about photography is how many different styles and techniques there are. Besides being in IT I've been a wedding photographer for over 15 years.... I also like aerial photography and video from my drone.

"i think i'm going to find my inpiration/hobby." and i just find it "how about if will become photographer?!" and my only interest is camera's/(japan) [i just love taking aesthetic and sky pictures and some good view.] that's why camera is my interest. and i also find that japan is so aesthetic when i was a kid, my dream country is japan. so i'm also studying japanese (also studying language is my thing.[beacuase i wanna be a photographer and voice act or anime making in japan.]) i hope if who ever read this message "do what makes you happy, find your inspiration, be the real you"😊

this always used to happen to me! polaroids are so much better in the light. it basically only comes out in light so it’s best for summer pics. use the flash and somewhere with good lighting and yeah pretty much!

Hi! I’m really curious since I am basically illiterate with old developed cameras. How do we get to have a digital copy of the film photos once developed?

In my country, they either send a link of some cloud space where the pictures are for a while and you need to just download it or they give you a CD with your pictures.

jae - You'd need to scan the pictures or the negatives with a good scanner. If you want digital copies, then it's better to just use a digital camera in the first place. Scanning and then printing them will give you lesser quality prints than if you just had them printed right from the negatives.

I use old SLR and that thing has a recoil. I like to scare people with it (by letting them take a picture), but I can't do it too often.

Personally, I don't really recommend getting the scanner one because shots on phone are really different than what will the camera give, if you're going into vintage look, a regular instax camera would be better. (just my opinion)

You can always reproduce the images with archival film with your negatives, keep your negatives! It’s saved me multiple times when I’ve fucked up my pics on accident
