They never ever provide any verifiable evidence apart from individual incidences as representing an overall deluge of violence and assaults. There is supposed to be a line of independence between the judiciary and the legislature. The minister for justice in any government can't sack a judge for a decision they don't approve of.

@@JohnBreathnach That is a very difficult one. The US has a highly prison centric justice system. They have more of their population incarcerated than any other country in the world. But they still have a higher recidivism and crime rate in every way than here or anywhere else in the developed world. Getting state sanctioned "revenge" on criminals doesn't stop them from offending again. Countries like Norway have a very successful prison system with one of the lowest recidivist rates in the world. I would say we should look at who's doing it best and copy them.

The gardaí obtained the CCTV footage from local security cameras and after that thug pleaded innocent when first arrested and claimed he was attacked first, the guards showed him the footage and only then did he plead guilty when there was no denying the evidence. Because he admitted his guilt there was no need for the prosecution to present any evidence in court. Where the feck do you get your information from? Under a rock or from some gobshites on Facebook?

He is going to be dishonestly discharged. The legal process in the defense forces means that they have to wait for the civil court to conclude it process first. He's as good as gone already. But they will have questions to answer about their lack of action regarding previous cases that didn't receive national media attention. The reason this is getting national and international attention is because the victim is speaking out.

Very brave young lady. I hope she lends her voice to help other women in the same situation particularly the young girl who was assaulted on the flight. These suspended sentences for violent crimes must stop. But it is public policy to have lenient sentences so the soloution is with the government and the justice minister.

What women can do to stay safe is control the controllable which is what they say and do. In the past, women would engage in stay-safe behaviour, but now they get stuck into an interpersonal conflict that can lead to violent outcomes. Natasha had nothing to gain for herself or the people who were subject to this man's obscenities by verbally engaging with him. Don't try to talk reason to someone drunk or emotionally out of control. There is an old saying "Often a person's tongue breaks one's nose".

Our public servants should start by holding the Catholic Church to account for the mass murder of so many infant Irish citizens in its care.
