Nice job!! As a woodworker who does a little black smithing I would recommend that you forge yourself a drawknife. It will speed up the handle process.

Nice work👍🏻 on the Head, in a YT Short in my YT feed that lead me here, and on the Handle. I watch the other Blacksmithing YT channels. I like Black Bear Forge, John, and his teaching methods. You may already know of him. He's been a Blacksmith for decades. He currently has an ongoing series, vids of which are shown intermittently, on budget friendly blacksmithing start-ups. He's filling in a small shop on his property with basics. Making basic tools, fixtures, jigs, hardy hole items etc. As well as showing and suggesting where to find certain blacksmithing tools cheaper than the time/fuel/cost$ that you'd use up if making them.

Oh, shit. We’re about to take it to 400! The biggest woodworking project I’ve done was a prop bass guitar (left-handed and shrunk down a lil bit to look normal on my body.) I was 17, and it took me all summer, but I’m very proud of it. I was cosplaying Haruhara Haruko from FLCL. It’s made out of a solid plank of wood and some of those plaster/mesh strips to round out the widest parts of the bass that were wider than the plank. It’s much, much heavier than the real instrument. Going to guitar world for an assortment of stuff that doesn’t belong together was fun

Thanks dude, never too late to start. Taking classes is the best way IMO, then you can see if you want to pursue it further. I have a few on my website: nateweiss.org the schools that I'm teaching at are non-profits centered around learning crafts, so you can apply for scholarships or find classes that might be more interesting to you!

i commented earlier that the wood looked like wood that would hurt to use, and that the grain wasnt vertical. But i was wrong, so i deleted it. Sorry, i assumed i knew better since i have some basic knowledge on wood working as a beguiner and i was wrong

Deleted my og comment because it was stupid, little tip though!: it's fine you're not a woodworker but if you go to an antique place, tool meet, whatever. Get yourself a decent backsaw, Stanley, disston(doesn't matter) steel back or brass back. As long as you have one of those it'll make ripcutting(like you did with that crosscutter) a hell of a lot faster! I like this video a fuck ton

whyd you have to do the raising the grain part? what does the water and heat do for your handle making process? i wanna know
@nate_weiss_
@nate_weiss_ Жыл бұрын
It's not a necessary part of the process, but I do find my final finish is nicer overall. Sometimes the grain will naturally raise with the humidity in the air, and you end up with some rough spots. I find this helps to mitigate that.

I just started watching a short of yours and I love the editing. I won't say I get bored but I do get distracted and it makes it harder to look away and miss ANYTHING; TLDR I'm a fan. While I do enjoy shorts I am liking the longer videos. Seeing how these are made even if there's four clips going at once. Not sure how others feel but figured you deserved yet another comment. 💙 Keep up the good work!
