I vote save the birds by finding solutions to stop using fossil fuels. Change the Florida law. Start using reusable energy to help reduce co2. I love birds. When there gone there gone forever. There more breath taking then roblox. Would you rather see a parrot in real life or in roblox? I say real life. # save the parrots

We have non-native wild parrots here in Southern California also and they've been studied thoroughly and the conclusion is they are not invasive and have no impact on native species. It's pretty cool seeing them flying around.

@@juanlugarciamorato5177"Invasive" means it's competing with endemics for niches, not coming into a new area. Non-invasive & invasive species are both "introduced", but the Parrots themselves feed on mostly ornamental trees.

This is horrible and their needs to be laws in place for protecting them. Even though they are not a native species! Pretty soon those beautiful birds will become endangered and then become extinct. Miami is lucky to have them and it’s time for peoples to appreciate them! Leave the parrots free! Thank You to the wonderful lady that made this video clip and brought attention to the plight of the parrots!

You and the lady are morons. "Threats to natives: Members of the parrot family carry Newcastle disease, identified in 1971, which can infect native songbirds, game birds, domestic chickens and turkeys, and other exotic bird species. The native bird species can be infected by smuggled exotic birds and birds not properly quarantined that are released into the wild. This species also breeds in cavities which might limit the number available to native cavity nesters."

They are a transient species, not an invasive species. The Miami population could become extinct if their population values minimize.

You didn't provide a citation, and I could not locate an author or date to access the publication. The Miami population are transient. They are noninvasive. From what I could discern of your excerpt, the concern is pet species being released into the environment, not transients. Improperly released pet species always introduce possibility of vector transmission. The issue is we won't know until it occurs. However, other species, native and nonnative, provide a continuous flow of disease and parasite transmission all the time, every day. This is normal. It should be noted that transient species are functionally native, as is the case with the Florida macaw.

@@johnames6430 The point is to spread awareness ;) And hopefullly if many are aware, many will take measures to help against poaching by for example calling the police, like the video suggested. The first half was to inform, give context and stimulate sympathy.

Here in my city is so common to see Macaws flying around, we had a project to rescue and let these lovely birds go back to nature, but they always come back to the city. They're native birds here. Everyone knows they shouldn't feed them so the bird won't have the chance to get attached or come back just looking for food...

They're not invasive. An invasive species is a species that comes in, breeds excessively, and destroys the natural ecosystem. They're non-native, but they have not "invaded." 44 birds went down to 12. Invasive is like 4000 birds.

They aren't. Their roots are in escaped pets. They are an invasive species because of humans, just like the iguanas and pythons and carp in the everglades. Just because they are prettier doesn't mean they are meant to be there or don't imbalance the ecosystem.

@@jase123111 I'd imagine most people don't try to eat parrots because they don't taste great and there aren't very many of them... you'd be better off eating fat seagulls or pigeons, which also probably don't taste quite like chicken. I think people eat the animals that have the meat that they enjoy eating and don't really concern themselves with intelligence, especially because a large majority of people pays a healthy chunk of their salaries to avoid/re-mediate the intelligence they could've fostered. Many people are not even at the IQ they were when they were 5. I've seen plenty of two year old adults that throw major scene at their significant other or child and I've never wanted to eat any of them.

This is an archaic and distorted way of viewing nonhuman intelligence. We're actually very bad at measuring nonhuman intelligence and cognition. It would be more accurate to say an adult macaw has the intelligence of an adult macaw.

@@dearivers Yes they are. Do some research. There are still native indian tribes in South America that hunt these birds down to make feathered headdresses and costumes for their tribes, therefore killing off these species. They need to be protected here in the US.

I’m from Miami and I’ve never seen these birds before. I was in Hurricane Andrew in ‘92 so I know a bunch of parrots escaped from Zoo Miami and the little green ones live in Dadeland on the Marriott building next to the MetroRail station. Where in Miami was this filmed??

Actually, blue and yellow macaws are officially listed as LC (least concern). Where I lived in Ecuador they were a very common sight.

Macaws are NOT native to Florida, and therefore, should not be a concern when taking measures to sustain nature in Florida. Florida has enough problems with keeping their native flora and fauna alive.

Back in the late 80s Miami neighborhood Coconut Grove had flocs of beautiful macaws flying around, and many other ordinary parrots as well.

These parrot are awesome and all but they arent living in their native range so it’s the right thing to do not many local people seem to get that. That’s why it should be ok for them to be taken out of the Miami and why Florida fishing wildlife shouldn’t have any laws about them in my opinion. Would you rather have them taken in from their native range where they are most likely endangered? The parrots in Miami are still considered invasive cause they complete for the fruits and nuts native birds would eat.

Sarbo the Parrot well heres the difference although some people damage ecosystems and cause polution. We also have the ability to fix the environment they don’t.

I personally know someone who was one of the legal importer exporter‘s of exotic animals, and during hurricane Andrew‘s entire outdoor facility, was destroyed thousands of exotic birds. Every breed you can think of, including a very expensive breed called a hyacinth macaw all now flying free in south Florida.

San Diego Zoo, Parakeets nesting in the Palm trees, they are not native to San Diego, just escaped from peoples homes and protected and feed at the Zoo, all shades of colors and so beautiful to see

they're really smart, intelligent beautiful birds. i used to have them as pets but they were really loud and needed alot of upkeep. i felt it was better to give them away to an animal sanctuary

Tim Edwards that's just not true. Blue and gold macaws are the furthest thing from extinct. They're extremely common.

My god I love her. I spent 6 years in St Petersburg and fell in love with the wild parrots 🦜 . Monks are my favorite, seeing those highly intelligent and absolutely gorgeous birds was always a treat. I had come to learn of Miami’s wild Macaw population and had always been so intrigued by that. Seeing the kills me. Don’t buy pets people, please! Adopt!

They are so beautiful, and also so kind and gentle, hopefully their species will survive. I only own a pair of plush hyacinth macaws on a perch in my living room. haha. But it's incredible how big they are. Sometimes I play videos with parrots sounds and imagine they are real.

Inez879 Well, not all parrots can be brought back to their native habitat, and although smuggling and poaching is a terrible practice, many birds currently need homes. They can bond with their owner very closely and live happily in captivity, with the right care

@@brucejedilee5290 you couldn't be more wrong. They did NOT arrive in Florida naturally and they DO disrupt the balance of the native ecosystem. Lionfish and python are the top priority invasives for removal in Florida but ALL invasive animals should be removed

Yet it isn't neccisarily a bad thing, some of these animals would be extinct had they now been brought to Florida and they could balance things out even if they outcompete other animals by taking their place

They should be left alone to live in the wild. They don't cause nearly as much damage as other invasive species. Also, they rare in their native lands and this could be a final refuge for them.

Plus even before she "saved" the birds. They were brought to Florida from their homes across the oceans. If they never want the catching to happen, they never would have been in Florida the first place.

These “poachers” and their methods are cruel, yes. But don’t divorce their actions from the pet trade that they supply. This woman luring her birds into similar cages as the ones she denounces has the same impact to biodiversity regardless of her intention (her 6 Macaws are also not in the wild, they don’t count towards the 44 that used to be there). I find the same disconnect in my research, people blame poachers and refuse to see how they too are complicit.

She didn't lure them. She rescued one from a hurricane and the rest were given to her. No luring involved. FFS, watch the video.

I would agree with you regarding her first parrot. The lady - according to her story - saved the bird from drowning after the hurricane. So I agree with you regarding this "I saved the bird" statement, because that saving may have been her nice interpretation of capturing the bird. And the bird was probably wild because it would have a ring, and would be registered so she could find the owner. Other birds are not lured in - I saw rings, which means they were bought legally at some point, and she has taken them into custody when original owners could not care for them any more. And that is a very common thing especially with large parrots.

They are rescued macaws. Furthermore, she let them free fly. So if they want to leave they'll just fly away but they always choose to fly back to her. Not complicated.

I live in mid florida and see those green parrots even here. There beautiful. Cant wait to go to miami this September and keep an eye for these wonderful birds. Such a shame whats happening.....

I agree with this lady they meant to be free happy love. And we should treat them as family cause they are part of our family and nature. They should be loved and not use. 🐥🐥😭😭 so touching.
