@@cynharman6866 Wrong. Hyenas are extremely effective hunters and have an extremely high success rate when hunting. Sounds like you've been watching The Lion King a little too much.

Finally an African wildlife video that doesn’t result in the horrific death of some poor creature. I know many creatures have to hunt to eat, but I personally don’t want to watch an animal get ripped to pieces and eaten while still alive.

I know they didn’t secure the kill, but this really goes to show that hyenas are far from the cowardly and weak scavengers that most people make them out to be but powerful and calculated apex predators

This shows that hyenas are excellent hunters. Its never a nice sight when a babie animal is under attacks, but to attack a calf with 10+adult demants respect.

3:50 This is where the sabre-tooth and scimitar-tooth cats would make their living. They would plunge their canines into mammoth calves and then wait for the baby to bleed to death. The hyenas go hungry because they don't have that weapon.

Elephants are emotional animals. When they have little ones like this they never take chances of any predators. That's doesn't mean they are cowards. Mostly they charge every animal who messes with them without fear.

@@lastoutlaw3882 they left the calf behind at one point, like running for their lives and not protecting the young one. And that's a very bad comparison pal, A few hyenas can actually kill a lioness, but almost nothing can kill a full grown elephant

There were some cases of hyena clans hunting and chasing down elephant herds with new born calves undercover of darkness in Amboseli National Park in Kenya where hyenas predation on elephants grows higher mostly at night in some wildlife shows that I've watched like in Predators prey and All About Animals BBC on Animal Planet.

Both elephants and hyenas do share many similarities and things in common: 1. Both are really smart mammals. 2. Both share the same hierarchy society. 3. Both are social animals living in large social groups. 4. Both animals are have the higher ranking dominant female as the leader of the group. 5. Both males from the respective species are kicked out of the groups when they reach the age of puberty by seeking out in bachelor groups with other outcast males. 6. The dominant alfa queens of both species take charge and higher ranks in everything. 7. There can also be a strong sisterhood dynamic among female elephants and hyenas as they stick together in groups forever by developing a strong bonds like powerhouse womans and queens.

Point 5 is where they differ from Elephants, most males actually exile themselves for better mating opportunities, they aren't forced out most by their mother most of the times, there also have been cases of males actually remaining in their clan into adulthood. Not to mention that Spotted Hyena societal structure is more based on rank, males actually can become the leaders of their clans if they are the youngest offspring at the time of a matriarch's death, however once they become adults they generally exile themselves.
