It’d probably be the other way around if there was a case were sizes were more similar to make it an even playing field. The dolphin would be the one to make a plan, while the shark is pretty forward with a “punch to the mouth” (which would probably the equivalent to a bite on the fluke in this context). Thing is nature isn’t always an even playing field. Hence you have elephant-sized pack hunting dolphins who coordinate ambush attacks on a solo shark a quarter of their size.

The ocean is a vicious place. I know, I live in Florida and have been out on the deep water many a time. I've had a jewfish (goliath grouper, colossal grouper, I don't know what the appropriate name is now), come up, and eat sharks that I was reeling in, right off my hook. It's actually happened to me several times. It's a fish eat fish world out there. A couple of times, I was reeling in a fish and had another fish come after it, miss, and jump right in my boat. It's wild.

"Not normally on their menu" This is according only to human's modern knowledge. The study of orcas was not to the level of today in say 1400 AD, 500 BC. Studying ocean animals diet in detail is a modern obsession. Now that their are cameras everywhere, and the internet, and fast means of travel for humans to interact all over the world, this knowledge is becoming easily transferable.

@@Blackpill149 You'll have to ask them. Looking at shark anatomy, the liver is big and very nutritious and oily, while there's not much in the rest of the animal except lean muscle meat. Seals on the other hand have a lot of blubber (where most of the energy and important nutrients are). It could also be that they don't enjoy the rest of the animal and they have the luxury of being able to survive by eating what they like / the most nutritious part.

@@farajidunson656 There is documented evidence .For much longer than 5 years this has been studied by various fields of science. Not just by observation from Drones and fisherman but Necropsy as well. There's even a project called The Skinny Whale project. Whale Sharks and filter feeders have been seen eating Sardines and even larger fish . They have aggressively attacked fisherman's nets which had never happened before. It's the result of decades of observation but still - you can look into it to your own satisfaction and if you don't agree that's OK too.

We should never take orcas for granted! Our crew got on camera orcas in the Arctic, managing to swim where they couldn't before, but now, without ice, they have easy access. The problem is that the local species, like the narwhal, have never had a predator before and now have a powerful one, and we have no idea what will happen with these species in this new scenario.

It was discovered that a dead GW shark is literally a source of repellent for GW sharks. A dead GW was located on the ocean floor by divers. The GW sharks in the area left almost immediately & didn't return. It seems the smell of a dead GW shark repels GW sharks. It would seem to be a fantastic source of a very effective shark repellent for sharks in general, protecting divers & even surfers, among other ppl who use rhe oceans. A repellent sourced from dead GW sharks was tested & it was highly effective.

A sperm whale uses its clicks against other species could the orca's do the same thing with sharks, if they stun the shark and roll the shark over it will die and orca's have been known to employ this tactic.
