I've heard great versions of this work but this... I absolutely LOVE this version. The countertenor is insane; it's like the piece was actually written for countertenor and not alto. I'm just now learning of who Nathalie Stutzmann is but I need to learn more. She really did a great job here. This interpretation is superb. She gets all the moods right: the sorrow, the angst, the jubilation, etc. She manages to preserve the Baroque sound and making it Romantic at the same time. Superb, just simply superb.

I love Stutzmann's conducting (she's doing Don Giovanni at the Met at the moment) but I adore her voice, and I'm sorry that she seems to be giving up singing these days. I fell in love with Emoke Barath at the Boston Early Music Festival just before Lockdown. Jaroussky is a wonderful singer though it's not my favorite countertenor sound.

Bless be Pergolesi for creating such a music that touches my soul so deeply. And may these musicians, Mrs Stutzmann, and Mr Jaroussky and Mrs Barath be blessed for their amazing interpretation
@DeirdreMcNamara
@DeirdreMcNamara Жыл бұрын
Pergolesi was an "angel" sent for a few brief years to leave this absolutely outstanding and amazing gift of such complexity and richness that I can hear it every day and still find something new. IMO, he should be canonised...and Jaroussky and Barath with conductor Stutzman - transcendent...As an alto she sang this herself and so brings a very deep personal understanding of this "Divine" music. But the advertisers win no friends when they interrupt such a glorious work, and always in the middle of a soaring aria. smh.

Beautiful singing. Emöke has very high depth, and a pure melodious voice. Phillipe's voice inflection, and vibrato was whimsical, serious, and melodious. There were some challenging parts. These singers were beautifully matched, and their sombre, respectful dress attire, with the Cathedral stage set the atmosphere. I think the partition between the two, with the conductor is very strategic. You need full concentration, from not getting blared out by the other, or missing and/or not hitting a note because you've lost concentration. Each one, I think, was able to express themselves in their own space, but close enough to where their voices blended. The conductor Nathalie Stutzman, was really concentrated, and aware. The orchestra was pinpoint accuracy. I really did enjoy the performance. I felt almost as though I was back in that era.

This is perfection, renewed at each hearing. Barat is angelic, Jaroussky indescribable, Stutzman has sung this herself, and brings a really profound understanding of the deep emotions embedded in every chord and melody... Wish I could BUY, purchase a complete rendition so that this spiritual acropalypse is not interrupted by commercials... P.S.

How wonderful. Again and again and again. From time to time I come back to enjoy this masterpiece. Well done Emöke, well done Philippe, well done Nathalie and well done, every one playing in this gift of a concert. Breathtaking. The details of Philipp's wonderful balanced and hovering effortless counter tenor voice versus the clearness and catching power of Emöke's soprano with an unbelievable dynamic range. Nothing you would expect, but what a wonderful match. One of a kind. Bravo.

Bouleversant, Sublime, Merveilleux.
