Not mine, but I had to share. Season 8 of When Calls The Heart is a classic example of writers “telling” us, not showing, what their lead character feels. In any love triangle, audience initial bias plays a critical factor in storyline perception. Season 8, though, has been misleading-in its use of plot devices and just the fact that the unchosen suitor shared more screentime and meaningful dialogue with the lead character this season, than even the chosen suitor. The chosen suitor scenes were filled with superficial dialogue, interruptions, and lots of “telling” not showing. The shock factor outcome with haphazard build-up demonstrates either careless, inept, or prideful writing. If the writer had a particular suitor in mind from the beginning, then it is the writer’s responsibility to guide the audience to the same conclusion, not cruelly manipulate until the bitter end. Shock factor loses its appeal when half of your audience is left confused and disheartened. I realize one side was bound to feel this way. But it does not serve your characters or your craft when you take the most multi-faceted male character on the show and demote him to the tertiary character. This is the most frustrating result of season 8. It is not just that the heroine chose the character I personally like less. It is that she chose, objectively speaking, the lesser character. She chose a man who is her equal in the superficial matters, not in the things that truly matter to build a life together. She chose a man who will say all the right things, but not a man who, I believe, will challenge her into becoming a better person. And she chose the man who was passive throughout season 8, not the man who actually tried to fight for her. Love may not be logical, but this choice defies the overarching theme of the entire season. Love may not “make sense,” but character writing should.

When Lucus is upset he drums the tea cup with his thump or a glass he is holding he is very insecure or in the upcoming episode he would have stopped and seen Elizabeth when he saw Nathan's horse.

I just saw this. I knew she would pick Lucas from the beginning because right before Jack left for the training mission she said I thought you were done with the mountie business. He said it is my last time. She could not handle his work and while Nathan reminded her of him and she was attacted to him, she could not go through that again. I felt bad for him in many scenes. I was not for one or the other really. Many times I thought Nathan would be more loyal. I remember the scene where she warmed his coat and put it on him lovingly and he turned around and she was almost disappointed or lost in thought. She imagined Jack when she was doing that.

Poor of Nathan because Elizabeth not even smiling with him. So Nathan is with his wonderful young girl Allie he love her so much and also Allie love Uncle so much Amen

I have to say I love that Elizabeth and Lucas found each other. But I can understand the love relationship and how they feel about each other between Elizabeth and Nathan. I am sure the writers in season 9 will do Nathan or Kevin mcgarry great Justice in finding him someone to love. I'm hoping its Faith! My hats off to all the writers in making such a difficult decision. There are always going to be people on both sides that are unhappy , but if we all remember this is a fictional series, and the writers are writing What they feel is the best for all of Hope Valley and the series, and we can trust them and go with the flow then everyone will be happy in the end. Nathan Will indeed find his to love him sure and will all be very happy. I personally hope its faith! Lol
