If you get an old heater that seems weak , dump some salt in . Most times that will get it heating .

As a US soldier for 14 years I never fantasized about any MRE.

I am a U.S. Marine Corps Combat Veteran. I served 2002-2010. In 2004-2005, I was in Iraq! My second deployment. I fondly remember menu item number 1. It was pretty decent, when fresh! The milkshake was never all that good..lol! Keep up the great work!

You should send what was left over to Iron Gut Steve1989. That guy has eaten so many bad MRE's that his insides are preserved. Personally I wouldn't have tasted the clumpy stuff. It usually goes if the Tasters Choice is moldy the rest of the meal is good. If the Tasters Choice is good the meal was bad. That was the rule I lived by when I received older rations. You are a brave man is what I have to say.

Give me an old fashion “ beef chunks with potatoes “ C ration any day of the week. Just open the can , set the box on fire and you have a hot meal

Here's a quick tip: If you add a pinch or two of salt to your FRH, it re-energizes that FRH. Try it.

The heater didn’t work because u didn’t fold the bag. I’ve eaten many of these during my tour. Read the instructions there their for a reason.

I've drank 4-5-7 and 9 year old dairy shakes. Never had an issue with them. Didn't even know you weren't supposed to.

Dehydrated beefsteak, was the all time best for me. I actually miss a few MRE's... very few

It was in a combat environment, I had it in 2003, when they first started adding the shakes into them. It was better when brand new, but the beans in yours probably didn't age well, as they were the best part.

The best m r e I got was back in the early 90,s. Beef chunks with gravy. Add 1 can of vegetable soup and heat it up over a sterno stove in your canteen cup. When I went to n t c I went prepared.

How does a dairy shake develop salmonella with age? It would have to have it when it was packaged, which would make soldiers ill no matter how fresh it was. It can and does go sour though.

Back in 2007/08, the best MRE I ever ate was a beef paddy with mushroom gravy. Came with a chocolate brownie cookie.

Now they can make decent MREs by cooking up food normally and chucking it through an E beam irradiator. Lots more effective than simply using the heat method alone.

Yeah, I got this MRE once because I was the last one to the box, if you absolutely positively have to eat an MRE you want to be the one opening the box.

I always liked the old MCI's back in the day. The only truly bad one was the ham and lima beans. That one was pretty bad. Otherwise, fairly decent, and the chocolate circles were quite tasty.

Did you use a rock with the heating bag? I’m sure that’s why it didn’t heat correctly

I liked the beef steak w/ mushrooms. I HATED the spaghetti. Everyone hated the spaghetti.

When you are in a fox hole in a foot of water and World War II rations it sucked in 1967.

So you have to heat them up on an engine manifold and they are great when you are really hungry

The more,s today are far better than the food we got in cans

it amazes me that the United States lets money dictate the quality of the food given to the brave men and women who put their lives on the line to preserve the harmony we enjoy while others so called sub-par nations supply far more diversity and quality in the Meals given to their soldiers just to name one for instance Lithuanian single meal number 6 absolutely home-cooked deliciousness

Most of those M.R.Es look like something I left in the toilet although when I in the service we where given C-Rations that is the cand mres and you got a P-38 can opener

Dude......toss the Tootsies...........take my word for it. I got some in a 2017 ration that stunk to high Heaven and tasted awful. And most of the frh's from Warnick are toast.. But the foods been great.
