Today on the show, we host Vikram Sampath. He is an Indian popular historian, noted for authoring biographies of Gauhar Jaan and V. D. Savarkar. He is one of the most knowledgeable guests on the show - truly inspiring.
Bangalore-based historian Dr. Vikram Sampath is the author of 8 acclaimed books of history including biographies of Gauhar Jaan & Veer Savarkar & Bravehearts of Bharat on unsung heroes of India.
This video is a breakdown of the Indian Freedom Struggle. The Indian independence movement was a series of historic events with the ultimate aim of ending British rule in India. It lasted from 1857 to 1947. Few leaders followed a more violent approach, than the others. This became especially popular after the Rowlatt Act, which permitted indefinite detention. The Act sparked protests across India, especially in the Punjab province, where they were violently suppressed in the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. The Indian independence movement was in constant ideological evolution.
Lucky are those who are born in this great country.

14:42 Have you ever noticed, many Brahmin families in cities like Pune, Mumbai etc, don't have ancestral villages. They will say that they are from these cities only. These are people thrown away from their villages. Anyway, most of them studied really hard, and are doing well now. The fate of that generation was to suffer! some suffered this, and some suffered partition! The painful thing is that it repeated again in 84 and partition-like suffering in 89!

My grandmom was born on 9th Feb 1948 (9 days after the assassination). Being first child in the family, rightfully there were celebrations in place at the house then. The celebrations were misinterpreted and we being 'Maharashtrian Brahmins', it was considered that the family was celebrating Godse's doings and our house was burnt down. Thankfully, my great grandfather being a Post master in the village had good relations with the mob and was asked to vacate the house before burning it down.

As Bhagwan Krishna said in Geeta some times to destroy evil and to resurrection of dharma you have to take up arms ..Gandhi I compare to Pitamah bhishma who gave only moral support to Pandavas but took arm against them and said I will not kill pandavas but I will not let Kauravas die as well ..and it was stalemate situation..that's when Shri Krishna himself took weapon in his hands and broke his own vow ..this is huge lesson we should take from him..

The reality is those involved in genocide were congressi goons where n number of Chitpavan brahmins were killed and their houses were also burnt but no cases were registered against them... The only reason behind the genocide was godse belonged to chitpavan community.

When people are blind, someone takes an extreme step. Instead of learning from WHY he did it, and then implementing ways to not let such thing happen again by removing the actual cause, we simply condemn and punish them and then go back to our comfortable lives because learning and changing both are difficult.
