I think that "rebellion isn't tolerated" is the scariest EDIT: I posted this five years ago assuming everybody knew about the subliminal messaging. Just to give a little bit of story behind the messages in this video; My father who served in the navy in the 80's was always an atheist. As he ages, he is beginning to show signs of PTSD from his the time that was spent serving our country. He was the type to blurt out random things while doing every day activities, like whenever we would clean the kitchen he would say "Sweepers, sweepers, to and fro, hit the corners as you go." This was apparently something they would say on the intercom One day, he was driving me to work, and he blurted out "God is an American. When you serve our country, you serve for God." I asked him what was wrong, because he NEVER made any mention of God throughout his entire life, and actually shown disdain for the idea of a God. He then followed up with "You know son, coming out of the navy was very difficult. They brainwash you into thinking thoughts that aren't your own. Coming back into society was one of the hardest things I've ever done in my life." If things like this were done to the people that served our country, subliminal messages that have similar content does not surprise me. It's a good thing subliminal messaging has proven to be largely ineffective anyway. In the case that this were real (which honestly, I can make out the words out normal speed, I think some people would have noticed at the time that this actually aired) I would just equate it to the government having their own agenda as always.

This reel was used in the 1980s as a signoff however the weird part is that the 1980s version of this video was cropped and has a smaller field of view, meaning this version WAS the original.

I'm Canadian, but I've always been more impressed with The Star Spangled Banner than O'Canada, which is not a bad anthem in itself, either. (I also liked the American sign-offs better, too - sorry, hard-core Canadian nationalists.) It's nice to know that old prints like this still exist for future generations to see - too bad that young people are spoiled by the flash and trash they see around them.

Where, how and when did you salvage this video? Looking into it for approximately a half hour leads me to believe it is manufactured. What stations and what dates was this used for sign off? I cannot find it in any archive for tv-sign offs.

It ends in a question because the whole last phrase is a question. "Oh say, DOES that star spangled banner yet wave, o'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?" It was written for army men while they were looking for the flag to still be standing, representing the win or the loss of the war of 1812.

Welp I hate to say it, but this is fake. I found the original, it was used on WMAQ channel 5, in 1984. This clip was PAIN STAKINGLY RECREATED. It was not made in 1963, however I’ll give this guy credit for getting a high quality version and then making it color washed. Very good job. If you want a clip, look it up, WMAQ channel 5 sign off. It’s low quality but it’s in color and much later. It could still be real, and they just changed the text, but unlikely, I think this channel might just be analog horror.

If you don't believe this is real, here is some proof. Someone found "2 versions" of this. "The real" and "fake". (When i'm talking about "fake" video i mean this video) In the "real" one is just that lyrics, and not those hidden messages, but in the "fake" you can see those words if you pause. In 00:15 you can see that building in the right corner, but in the "real" video you can see just half of it. In the "real" video you can see that shading in that text is in different place than in "fake" video. So, how could this be fake when in the "real" video we can't see the whole building but in this we can? Edit: also, someone found website where is those 2 versions of this.

When I was little I used to stay up late to watch Kung Fu theater it was a must for any 70s 80s child. But any time I would tune into one of the local stations signing off for the evening I would stand up. I knew I didn't have too. I was a kid alone in my PJs at 2 or 3 in the morning. Oh well. I find it interesting that the name of the uploader has "NAOMI" in the name. The uploader never mentioned uploading this for any other purpose than sharing. I like it. This makes it feel more Hollywood, like a John Conner type open but encrypted message. I wonder if the 1963 x2 in the name is a hidden code for something other than their birth year. Your thoughts are just like the movement in your hands, your breathing your heart beating it does it with instinct, but if you're focusing on thinking you make things harder to understand.. When I play guitar I remember stuff when I start from the beginning and focus on other things except remembering the instrumental. If I focus on what im doing I get lost and I mess up, but when I let my instinct do it while focusing on other things I manage to play a whole song without looking at the guitar:)

@codered9695 - What was created in the 1970's was the Q-TV VPS-100 videoprompter system, used by many TV stations and ubiquitously positioned atop the lenses of many a TV camera.

I remember when I was 16, In 1965. me and my friends were playing around and listening to the Beatles, and our friend had a machine that slowed down clips (He was a big geek). We slowed this down considering there was already suspicion of it being a subliminal message, and then we saw. We started crying and couldn't sleep for days. I have always been an atheist so this REALLY scared me.

Too blatantly evil and ominous for even the gov't to pull. It would make for a badass piece of viral marketing, though.

There is a digitized look to the animation of the text. It doesn't mesh with the texture of the film stock/original recording. It doesn't look "burned" into the film as it should. Also, the "Obey, consume" is ripped right off of "They Live", which came out 25 years after the alleged original airing of this.

Thanks. The origional post was nov 11, 2009 of this supposed TV sign off! there is two problems. Teleprompters didn't start until 1974.. ABC monday night football was the first to use it! So it is not from the 60's. Next thro is not a word found in the Star spangled banner! Thru is the correct word.. and during the cold war of the 1960 that slip would have never happened. problem solved.

This is very interesting video if it is 'real'. By the way, recently read the HELP for KZfaq - shortcut keys. Ok, you can change speed with < and >. ⭡(uparrow)/⭣(downarrow) to change volume. You can stop video with k and backup with j (or ⭠) and jump forward with k (or ⭢). And best of all, you can single-step frames of video: , (comma) to step back one frame and . (period) to step forward one frame. I bet you didn't know that. But I must say, it is still hard to see those subliminal messages.

I say it's hoax. Because: 1) It's TOO obvious. A LOT of people would have seen it. You can SEE the messages at normal speed. People aren't DUMB. Even in the 60s! 2) the text "obey consume" is modern thinking. People didn't think like that in the 60s. And it's just not part of what MK was doing at that time. Only in the modern fantasy is "obey consume" what MK was about. Also, side-note MKNAOMI is probably a red herring in any case. ULTRA is a classification level. MK means MK. Thus MK-ULTRA makes sense, often shown with hyphen or even as 2 separate words.

Somethings make my day great no matter how short or small it is. One time i rode my skateboard down a really long small alley when i had over 6 miles left of a journey to get home.
