Adam Rapa plays the National Anthem (With Full Intro and Outro) - at the Final Game at Cowboys Stadium

Anyone can spend 10 seconds on KZfaq and find a higher note version of the National Anthem. However, this is the classiest one with a high F AND brilliant vibrato mind you, you'll ever find.
@parkerlowell82157 жыл бұрын
Its a high G, he goes from high C to a high G at the end because it is in the key of concert F which is the key of G for trumpet. But you right this is way better as a lead trumpet player who loves high notes and loves how cool double C sounds, high G is still very impressive and he had a lot better tone than Arturo had on his high G.
@josh52666 жыл бұрын
I play trumpet, and that in fact was a high F, not a double G.
@pascalkieneke72794 жыл бұрын
@@josh5266 Its an high G. He goes from high C to high G.
@gabrielbustos2706 Жыл бұрын
@@pascalkieneke7279no, C to G would be a perfect fifth. The highest note is an F (concert Eb). He plays it right after the high C (concert Bb). You can hear the perfect fourth.
@gabrielbustos2706 Жыл бұрын
@@parkerlowell8215the interval that he plays at 2:04 is a perfect fourth. He goes from a C to an F (Bb to Eb concert pitch). A C to a G would be a fifth. This version of the anthem is in F major (Eb major concert pitch).

Adam has the talent, the musical understanding, and the chops to take any brass music to stratospheric levels. Adam is the Doc Severensen of his generation. I could listen to him any time! "Higher, Faster, Louder!" Go for it, Adam! Watch this outstanding musician's career. Go to a concert, and enjoy his world-class talent. He's inspiring!

Much respect to Adam Rapa. I am an Arturo Sandoval fan and I am new to Adam Rapa's playing style. Still amazed. I like both. #Respect!

His was a more modest version compared to Sandavol's. Rapa's tone was fantastic as well. Just because his wasn't as flashy doesn't make it any worse

Wang Lo different personalities, different interpretations, different backgrounds. music is the reflection of a persons soul. Arturo is fun and energetic and likes to play around. Rapa seems more technical and stick to the book. It's like cooking is it art or science.

Arturo didn't do it better - just a different style. This guy was fantastic. Every note down center.
@moosewhizzerdave2066 Жыл бұрын
Didn't care for Freddie Jones' version Sept 2022 to open the season. He had spit knocking around the horn for one thing, but for another, just a really spread tone and a hammer for a tongue. But he's a jazz player, and that's what you get. Arturo's version was kind of brash, but that squeal....to control the tone as he did while squealing was impressive. For Adam, you're right, his pitch was right down center, and he's got a great tone. Slurred a lot of it, which made it a bit more lyrical, but a lot of his slurs weren't clean. In some instances that was probably intentional, in others I'm not so sure. I doubt he was very happy with the first few measures when he had to clear spit and bobbled a little bit as a result. Of the three, Adam's version, to me, was clearly the best. Really solid tone, warm vibrato, nice straight, tight, clean version. Would like to see the trumpet used for a Superbowl some time, and he'd do a great job. For my own part - the one and only time I played the national anthem was my worst trumpet-playing disaster by miles. I was asked to play it that afternoon. Didn't have it memorized, our school didn't have a marching band so I didn't really know how to memorize music. Went home, wrote it out, stuck it in the lyre and practiced for some time. Sounded good, got my phrasing/breathing down, had no problems, felt good about it. Then I went to the game, and they made me stand in the press box in front of a microphone to play. Completely dark. "Do you guys have lights in here?" "No." Perfect. I 100% needed to see the music and I'm in a completely dark room. Then I asked that they not announce my name, and immediately after, they announced my name. Back in those days my nerves were overcooked noodles. I needed anonymity. Anyway, I got about as far as "Perilous" before I had to pull the chute. I got through the first verse well enough, then my guessing got bad, then really bad, and I cut it off before I ever got near "and the rockets' red glare". I walked home three miles that night to punish myself for ruining the national anthem. It was embarrassing but I felt such deep shame. As an adult, I would have either stepped outside the pressbox to play (screw their microphone, it was unnecessary), or insisted on light. As a 16/17-year old kid....nope. Gee I'm glad I just remembered that.....

the thing about Arturo playing the anthem, the irony of his back story, and the fact that he's a Cuban immigrant, and a true American. But to think in our crazy world today, people like him, talented, ambitious, persistent artists, may not even get a chance to immigrate into our country to make such great art.

Nope, the "change" was referring to the fact that Tommy Loy played the National Anthem on trumpet for 20+ years at all the home games - then they started only having singers do it for a long time. For the final game, they wanted to revive the old tradition. Thus, the "change". And I'm REALLY glad they called me! ~peace

Adam: I appreciate the way you played the anthem the traditional way! A lot of trumpet players have tried to improvise so much that the song was ruined. Maybe in other circumstances or smaller evironment, but not in a huge live (national) audience such as this event. What a great performance! Kudos to Adam Rapa! From a student of his at 53 years old!

"...I turned my ego off completely. There was only love. The ego is a very powerful and dangerous force, which can easily sabotage you in moments like that. All it would take is one fearful thought about what would happen if I didn't play well... what people would think of me... Just one negative thought from the ego and I could have crashed and burned. But because I managed to put my ego to sleep during an event with so much pressure, that stands out as a huge success for me."

The first thing we hear is sound. Man you have a great sound! You do not have to go sound like a constipated mouse to be effective. That is the way so many players sound when they try to impress with the high notes. They forget they are to make music. Carole

@pthayer09 Adam's trumpet uses Amado water keys for evacuating moisture, and they have a spring-loaded button on the sides to move an internal piston, which he didn't touch. He was tuning his trumpet, and you can see him using the tuning slide brace to do it.

@TMNoob3 It's cool man. Not as many horn makers brush their horns because it makes it harder to correct if and when the plating starts to fade, and the same goes with bead-blasted (satin) finishes. Clear lacquer or polished silver/gold will always be the most durable plating options because they're fundamentally longer-lasting and can be repaired as needed. But brushed horns look pretty badass up-close...

@jevonj77 No, they brought him in because the Cowboys, up until 1989, had a trumpet player by the name of Tommy Loy, play the National Anthem at Texas Stadium. Since it was the last game ever at Texas Stadium, they wanted to honor the tradition. Having known Tommy personally, he would have been pleased with how Adam handled it. I love Arturo as a jazz player but he just does overkill on the National Anthem. If anything was special, it was the way it played. That is, the right way.

The Concert "Eb" version. Since it was mostly a P4 above the original - except the higher parts - it would have been more impressive if the the higher parts were up as well. Imagine that 4th space "F" being an octave higher - that would have been truly awesome.
