Red's endurance really outlasted my expectations. I like the format, not so much as a spectator sport, as a training method. Start with striking, so you get practice closing the distance. Both guys were really active the whole time. I was impressed.

How does one not choke with so many opportunity's? Arm bar opens and ya no. Kinda like aggressive hugging. Red had no gas left half way through, but blue refuses to capitalize on it. I don't get this... What am I missing here?

NGL, in bjj I've faced veterans and even one active duty army ranger, and let's face it. They are trained to clear rooms, communicate, and shoot to an elite level. Their hand to hand puts them in maybe the top 30 percent, and most of that is just due to size and conditioning.
@B0ARL0RD8 ай бұрын
True, but guys like you do join the army as well. Not every soldier has the same skill set. EX bellator fighters, and guys who have had fights in the ufc join the army every now and then. It's not super common but they are out there. But yeah you're right. It's very rare that a guy has actually tested me in my 5 years.

Had plenty of vets show up at the couple of gyms I've trained at over the years.... most of them stay for one or two classes and never come back.@@B0ARL0RD
@dannydonnelly81988 ай бұрын
Same here it's just a completely different mindset than actual martial arts. Vets tend not to do well in combat sports after the military unless they've trained before joining due to how their brain is rewired for aggression only. Marine and Amy vets are the worst people to train with since they don't know when to stop even after you tapped them several times/let them regain themselves in striking. I've encountered it in BJJ and Muay Thai gyms. That said, Airforce guys aren't that bad to train with, they're typically more humble and analytical. I've never met/trained with anyone from the Navy, Coast Guard or Space Force so can't speak about them.
@wauzers8 ай бұрын
This is bare knuckle MMA, combat SPORTS, not combatives. There is no competition or sports in combatives.
@jwallace29138 ай бұрын
Unless you're infantry, combatives isn't something of a huge focus. I trained combatives once a week for about an hour, that was the extent of our training. Quick 15 minute lesson to start then 1v1 rolls for the remaining 45 minutes. I think that any advantage we would have in a hand to hand situation is just the fact that we have a lot of experience doing it, not necessarily trained to any degree beyond the absolute bjj basics. As you can see in the video any top level grappler could tear these guys apart but this is an Army brotherhood thing and these guys are tough as nails.

@FentonMulley-cz8pv6 ай бұрын
No way. They had zero balance or cardio mindset. That's the whole hurdle of blue. You need to move with looser muscles and have some more focus for blue.
@jedediahsmart5696 ай бұрын
@@FentonMulley-cz8pv ya, I have been training for almost 10-years, won 5 tournaments at blue belt, I think I would call them blue belts. This is technically combatants, not BJJ too. Not sure if you have competed, but it's pretty easy to go harder than you can actually handle. These dudes are in pretty good shape, and have some decent moves. They aren't particularly smooth, but I think they are beyond white belt.
@FentonMulley-cz8pv6 ай бұрын
@@jedediahsmart569 have you belted people? I have, and there needs to be a criteria and methodology. Also I've got more than 5 tournament wins and started 15 years ago. Combatives is a joke. I used to spar the graduates on the local base fight house. They are so far from blue it's disappointing. It's uncomfortable to admit but our military training is idiotic and antiquated. They are producing entitled beefcakes not highly skilled fighters. It has become a self help cult more than anything functional and the combatives is a great example.

They’re easily blue belt level as far as defense, scrambling, and transitions, but I was screaming at all of the wide open submissions. Give these dudes a year in a good bjj gym and they’ll be a god damn night mare. Lmao.
@robertgasper24957 ай бұрын
I thought the same thing. There were several opportunities for the blue belt to take the back and work for a rear naked choke and I was surprised he didn't try an arm in guillotine since he was in the front headlock position several times. He burned a lot of energy in the mount trying to force things. Tough dudes though and terrific conditioning.

@@ZervNugzHD 🤣I wasn't trying to be a dick haha but ur 100% right. Purple is widely considered the beginning of the "expert" level, that is why I would hesitate to guess they were purple belts, but guess is they are either the actual or equivalent of like 2-3 stripe blue belts (blue is the longest rank back in the earlier days I spent just under 4 years at blue belt and I was training every day! But it really varies academy to academy and other factors like age/athleticism/general demeanor all greatly manner. We can all agree they DEF are not newbies, but at the same time, they wouldn't have a chance winning a no gi expert division of any remotely competitive tournament.
